Default Reasons To Believe (1 Peter 3:15) - 01-15-2014, 02:14 AM

Sometimes atheists come here and ask, "Why do you believe in God?" There are so many reasons, really, it's just so obvious there is a God and He knows me and He loves me. I know my Brothers and Sisters in Christ feel similarly. The LORD has pressed upon my spirit to share with those who are Spiritually Walking Dead just why I believe in God.

Some People Have Gone To Heaven And Returned
‘Heaven Is for Real’ best seller sits on ‘The New York Times’ list for three consecutive years Colton is famous for being the boy who had a near-death experience when he was 4 years old during emergency surgery for a burst appendix. Doctors offered little hope he would survive.
Not only did he live, he says he went to heaven during the operation, met Jesus, John the Baptist, his great-grandfather and a sister he didn't even know he had, then came back to tell his folks about the trip.

Bernarda Fernandez recounts her five days in Heaven and Hell: "Jesus approached me, touched my head and told me: 'I am Jesus who died for you. Look at these marks in my hands, they are still there for you. I came down from my throne of glory to speak to you; there are many things in your life to put right. You are lazy and quick-tempered. Moreover, I do not want 25% Christian nor 95%, but 100%. If you want to go to heaven, you have to be holy as I myself am holy; I came to take you for a journey.'"

Former atheist, Crystal McVea, died and went to Heaven. She describes talking with God: "It didn’t take long to realize that there was a third figure nearby." To her right, McVea said she recognized God. After years of lamenting over his existence and wondering why he would have allowed her to suffer through sexual abuse at such a young age, as well as other challenges, she said she instantly fell before him in worship."

God Always Answers Prayers
God listens to all of our prayers, regardless of what we ask (Matthew 7:7). He does not ignore His children (Luke 18:1–8). When we talk to Him, He has promised to listen and respond (Matthew 6:6; Romans 8:26–27). If we ask in faith and according to His will, the answer is "yes" (1 John 5:14–15; Matthew 21:22). Sometimes it feels like we ask in faith or according to His will, but it is not so. We know this when His answer is "no" (Proverbs 3:5). Because we are human, we experience time in a linear fashion. What feels like "no" is really just "not now" (Romans 8:25; Romans 12:12; Psalm 37:7—9). But because God lives outside of time, we cannot know that He has already answered our prayers, so we must wait. Through it all, we know that He is in control (Psalm 46:10).

Being An Atheist Is Depressing
When confronted with the truth of their lack of hope, atheists typically reveal a haughty swagger, intolerance, hypocrisy, and snarky ridicule for any who dare to profess faith in God.

We hear atheists make such outrageous, slanderous comments such as, "Religion applauds delusion and renames it 'faith'"; "Religion is a virus sustained by fear, gullibility and a tendency to believe ones elders. Rationality is the vaccine."; "Science adjusts its views based on what's observed. Faith is the denial of observation so belief can be preserved."; and "It is time that we admitted that faith is nothing more than the license religious people give one another to keep believing when reasons fail."

What's the root cause of such insulting hostility?

In Psalm 2:1-3, we see David reveal the reason why unbelievers have such aggression against God and His people: "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us."

The Psalmist says that people rage against God because they think He restricts them and interferes with what they want to do. Thus, God is viewed as oppressive and is rejected as an authority and ruler over their lives, when in fact they are bound and held in slavery to sin. But they will not admit this, instead, like children having a temper tantrum, they will insist faith is naught but foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:23).

Some Of The Smartest People Are Christians

Science Can't Answer Every Question
Our souls are somehow separate from our brains and yet science cannot answer how. We know, for example, everything about your mind can be damaged by damaging the brain. You can cease to recognize faces, you can cease to know the names of animals, but you still know the names of tools.

What science cannot explain is how you can damage one part of the brain and something about the mind and subjectivity is lost, you damage another and yet more is lost, and yet if you damage the whole thing at death we can rise off the brain with all our faculties intact, recognize loved ones, meet Jesus face to face, and still speak fluent English.

Science cannot answer how, and one knows for certain what this separateion feels like, but the only the Bible describes what happens. 2 Corinthians 5:6–8 and Philippians 1:23 say that when we leave our body, we are at home with the Lord. What a reassuring thought! We will stay in this state until Christ comes and resurrects the believers (1 Corinthians 15:20–22; 6:14) when we will be given a new, glorified body.

It Can't Be Chance
Peter Stoner, in Science Speaks (p. 100–107), has shown that coincidence in prophetic Scripture is ruled out by the science of probability. By using the laws of probability in reference to eight prophecies concerning Christ, Stoner found that the chance that any man would fulfill all eight prophecies is 1 in 10 to the 17th power. That would be 1 chance in 100,000,000,000,000,000. And that is only considering eight prophecies; Jesus fulfilled many more. There is no doubt that the Bible’s accuracy and reliability are substantiated by prophecy.

I Think About God, Therefore, He Must Be Real
Christ woos us like a bachelor woos his future bride. There are many verses that demonstrate God’s love. We can see His tenderness in Old and New Testaments alike. God created us with the intention that we would know Him, love Him, and serve Him (Ecclesiastes 12:13). He has surrounded us with evidence of himself and he keeps the facts of his existence squarely before us (Romans 1:20). When I first opened my heart to the possibility that the God of the Bible exists, I couldn't escape thinking about Him, feeling that He was thinking about me. The more I kept my mind open to this possibility, the more I read the Holy Bible, the more I knew God was reaching out to me, and He wants you to know and love Him, too.

Of course men can reject who Jesus Christ is and what He has done for them. To reject Christ is to reject God (John 10:30). So my dear atheist, what will it be for you? Will you live by man’s limited, faulty reason? Or will you acknowledge your Creator and accept God’s revelation in the Bible?

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Proverbs 3:7–8

Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.
