Default Re: Geneva Conventions vs. The Holy Bible - 04-20-2013, 03:15 AM

The Third Geneva Convention relates to the treatment of the prisoners of war. The text of the entire convention can be read here: http://www.icrc.org/ihl.nsf/FULL/375

Chapter I
Art 3. ...
(1) Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria.
To this end the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons:
(a) violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;
(b) taking of hostages;
( c) outrages upon personal dignity, in particular, humiliating and degrading treatment;

This statement is very similar to Art. 3 of the 1st Geneva Covention; again, it stands in clear contradiction to God’s will:

Quote:
Joshua 10:22-26
22 Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.
23 And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.
24 And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.
25 And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
26And afterward Joshua smote them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.
See also Joshua 8:29, 1 Samuel 15:32-33.

(d) the passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples.

Verses above show that no human court is necessary when God has already given His verdict.

Part III. Captivity
Art 17. .... No physical or mental torture, nor any other form of coercion, may be inflicted on prisoners of war to secure from them information of any kind whatever. Prisoners of war who refuse to answer may not be threatened, insulted, or exposed to unpleasant or disadvantageous treatment of any kind.

Wrong. God allows not only to threaten and insult the prisoners (Joshua 10:24), but also to kill them in a public, painful, and humiliating way.

Section II. Internment of Prisoners of War
Chapter I. General Observations
Art 22. Prisoners of war may be interned only in premises located on land and affording every guarantee of hygiene and healthfulness.

There won’t be any time to intern the prisoners of war. They all should be either killed or enslaved soon after capture.

Chapter II. Quarters, Food and Clothing of Prisoners of War
Art 25. Prisoners of war shall be quartered under conditions as favourable as those for the forces of the Detaining Power who are billeted in the same area. The said conditions shall make allowance for the habits and customs of the prisoners and shall in no case be prejudicial to their health.

The Bible doesn’t say anything about feeding prisoners before killing or enslaving them, so this statement is against the will of God.

Chapter III. Hygene and Medical Attention
Art 29. The Detaining Power shall be bound to take all sanitary measures necessary to ensure the cleanliness and healthfulness of camps and to prevent epidemics.

The Bible doesn’t say anything about medical treatment of prisoners before killing or enslaving them, so they should not receive it.

Chapter IV. Medical Personnel and Chaplains Retained to Assist Prisoners of War
Art 33. Members of the medical personnel and chaplains while retained by the Detaining Power with a view to assisting prisoners of war, shall not be considered as prisoners of war.

When God says that all men (Joshua 11:14), or all men, women, and children (1 Samuel 15:3) should be killed, that means all. No exceptions for the medical personnel or for some ungodly “chaplains.”

Chapter V. Religious, Intellectual and Physical Activities
Art 34. Prisoners of war shall enjoy complete latitude in the exercise of their religious duties, including attendance at the service of their faith, on condition that they comply with the disciplinary routine prescribed by the military authorities.

That is absolutely ridiculous. Why would God allow some Hell bound heathens to practice their abominations?

Quote:
Deuteronomy 20:17-18 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee:
That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the Lord your God.
Chapter VIII. Transfer of Prisoners of War after their Arrival in Camp
Section III. Labour of Prisoners of War
Art 49. The Detaining Power may utilize the labour of prisoners of war who are physically fit, taking into account their age, sex, rank and physical aptitude, and with a view particularly to maintaining them in a good state of physical and mental health.

Finally, a reasonable statement! God agrees (2 Samuel 8:2).

Art 52. Unless he be a volunteer, no prisoner of war may be employed on labour which is of an unhealthy or dangerous nature.
No prisoner of war shall be assigned to labour which would be looked upon as humiliating for a member of the Detaining Power's own forces.

Given that the surviving prisoners are enslaved (2 Samuel 8:2), they have to do whatever their masters tell them to do.

Section V. Relations of Prisoners of War With the Exterior
Art 70. Immediately upon capture, or not more than one week after arrival at a camp, even if it is a transit camp, likewise in case of sickness or transfer to hospital or to another camp, every prisoner of war shall be enabled to write direct to his family... and to the Central Prisoners of War Agency provided for in Article 123... informing his relatives of his capture, address and state of health. The said cards... may not be delayed in any manner.

The Bible doesn’t say anything about informing the family. If we assume that the families are either dead (Deuteronomy 2:34) or enslaved (Deuteronomy 20:13-14), that would not be necessary anyway.

Chapter III. Penal and Disciplinary Sanctions
I. General Provisions
Art 82. A prisoner of war shall be subject to the laws, regulations and orders in force in the armed forces of the Detaining Power; the Detaining Power shall be justified in taking judicial or disciplinary measures in respect of any offence committed by a prisoner of war against such laws, regulations or orders.

The Detaining Power follows the laws of God, which give specific provisions on treatment of prisoners of war, as detailed earlier.

Part IV. Termination of Captivity
Section I. Direct Repatriation and Accommodation in Neutral Countries
Art 109. Subject to the provisions of the third paragraph of this Article, Parties to the conflict are bound to send back to their own country, regardless of number or rank, seriously wounded and seriously sick prisoners of war, after having cared for them until they are fit to travel, in accordance with the first paragraph of the following Article.

There is no such thing as “termination of captivity.” Surviving prisoners are enslaved forever (Leviticus 25:44-46).

Section III. Death of Prisoners of War
Art 120. ....The detaining authorities shall ensure that prisoners of war who have died in captivity are honourably buried, if possible according to the rites of the religion to which they belonged, and that their graves are respected, suitably maintained and marked so as to be found at any time.

No. Enemies don’t deserve honorable treatment:

Quote:
Joshua 10:27 And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day.
See also Joshua 8:29, 1 Samuel 18:27.

PART V. Information Bureaux and Relief Societies for Prisoners of War

Art 122. Upon the outbreak of a conflict and in all cases of occupation, each of the Parties to the conflict shall institute an official Information Bureau for prisoners of war who are in its power.

The Bible doesn’t mention a necessity to establish such a body, hence, God doesn’t approve of this foolish idea.

Art 123. A Central Prisoners of War Information Agency shall be created in a neutral country. The International Committee of the Red Cross shall, if it deems necessary, propose to the Powers concerned the organization of such an Agency.
The function of the Agency shall be to collect all the information it may obtain through official or private channels respecting prisoners of war, and to transmit it as rapidly as possible to the country of origin of the prisoners of war or to the Power on which they depend.

Again, God did not give us instructions to do such a thing.
