I'd say that autism is rather a test. Autists are usually more eager to study books unattended. With proper parenting, the children will study the Bible, with bad parenting, the will read fantasy or sci/fi instead. An improperly parented autist might think that people who haven't read the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" or "Lord of the Ring" are odd. Obsession by the number 42 is also common.
Increased rates of autism is thus a will of God, because He wants to see how good the parents are in guiding their children to Jesus. If you want the test to end or become less intensive, all you can do is to spank your kids diligently (Prov 13:24). However, if the rates suddenly drop, you'll get in trouble too, because this might mean that God refudiate parenting benchmarks altogether. This is likely to precede the Rapture, and you really need to spank your kids diligently to be Rapture Ready™.
