Default Day 204. Isaiah 10-12 - 09-29-2009, 09:37 PM

Isaiah 10-12

Isaiah 10

1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;

The first part of this chapter is a continuation of the end of chapter 9. Remember, God was angry, VERY ANGRY! GOD ANGRY... SMASH!!! So angry at Israel (northern kingdom) that he was allowing them to be carried away. During this same time, Judah (southern kingdom, including Jerusalem) was paying tribute to the Assyrians, so that they wouldn't be over run.

3 And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?

God, through Isaiah, is letting the people of Judah know that someday, they'll run out of money to pay the Assyrians off. When that time comes, who are they going to ask for help? They've already proved that they don't trust in the LORD to protect them.

4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Without God, the people will lose.

5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

God is using the Assyrians to carry out his plan. God is angry, and they are the instrument of his destruction.

11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?

Here is the warning to Judah. Samaria was the capital of the northern kingdom; Jerusalem was the capital of the southern kingdom. God is promising the same fate to the south as to the north.

12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

God then promises that after he's done using Assyria, that he'll turn his punishment to them, since they aren't worshiping him either.

13 For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

Through God, all things are possible; isn't quite right. Through God, all things HAPPEN; is correct. Since the Assyrian king didn't give God the credit, but claimed it was of his own doing, God's going to bring him down.

20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

One day, the people will return.

21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

Remnant shall return... that sounds familiar... oh yeah, it's the name of Isaiah's son Shearjashub.

22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

Sand of the sea
Spoken to Abraham
Genesis 22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;

Spoken to Jacob
Genesis 32:12 And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

It finally happened
1 Kings 4:20 Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry.

Now, the multitude is about to be thinned.

23 For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.

Remember, God is the one who made it happen. God took away most of the sand, leaving himself just a small sandbox of Jews.

27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

When God thinks that enough of the original has been purged, then he'll let them come back.

It seems every time that the Jews get scattered, they wind up having some terrible event, like having 10 tribes being wiped out, or by having a couple of million die in camps. After that event, the remnant winds up moving back into Israel.

Isaiah 11
1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

Remember, Jesse is the father of David. Who do we know (several hundred years later) that is from the house of David?

2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

Who do we know that had the spirit of the LORD land on him? Who was wise and understanding?

4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

Who do we know that judged the poor (and judged THEM innocent, and the rich guilty)? Who do we know that said the meek were blessed?

6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Who said "Let the children come unto me"? Who said unless you "become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven"?

8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.

The sucking child will play with asp holes. A cockatrice is kind of like a gryphon. It's a large rooster, with a lizard like tail. Rumor has it that the cockatrice species died out in the middle of the seventeenth century right at the beginning of the Age of Enlightenment.

10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Who actually spent time with Gentiles?

11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

The second time? Unless the first time was the return from Egypt, and the second time will be the return from Assyria, then the second return of the remnant would have to be the return of the Jews to Israel in 1948.

13 The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.

Remember, Ephraim was the largest northerly tribe, Judah was the largest southerly tribe. They had some feuds along the years, but when the messiah comes, they won't be hating each other. They will be one kingdom of Hebrew cousins, living happily together.

14 But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.

Ok, so even though in verses 6, 7, and 8, it said that all these different adversarial animals will live in peace together when the messiah comes, the Hebrews will then have domination over their neighboring countries. Animals will live in peace together, meat eaters will eat grass, kids will play with snakes, but the jews will be in charge of the philistines (or today the Palestinians).

16 And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

Then the remnants will come back to Israel, and it will be just a huge flow of them coming back. The immigration of Jews to Israel is called Aliyah. The original would have been when Abraham moved there. Then the return under Moses and Joshua. After the Babylonian exile, Ezra led 50,000 back. The first Aliyah was from 1882 to 1903, about 35,000 jews immigrated. The second Aliyah was from 1904 to 1914, and about 40,000 moved. The third had 40,000. The fourth had 82,000. The fifth had about 250,000 immigrants. From 1933 to 1948, it was illegal for jews to immigrate, this time was known as the Aliyah Bet. During the Bet, 110,000 jews immigrated. After this time, hundreds of thousands moved into the former Palestine yearly.

Isaiah 12

1 And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me.

Perhaps this is why the messiah hasn't come (returned). The Jewish people don't thank the LORD for giving them back their land, they feel as though society owes them something for the Holocaust. They haven't realized that their suffering and their deaths during that time, are as a result of them losing contact with their LORD.

2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

They need to thank the LORD, instead of blaming the nazi's.

4 And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.

I don't really hear those things coming from Israel. The only news I hear from there is that they have a military option for destroying the Iranian nuclear plants.

6 Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.

This is why there isn't peace in the mideast. You see muslim leaders praying and going to mosque, but you hear of Israel leaders having sex scandals. Friends, when you spend all your time worshiping the LORD, you don't have time to have sex with an intern.

So what have we learned today?

1. The people of both Judah and Israel will be taken away.

2. They'll return, and the messiah will come.

3. When he returns, animals will stop having enmity, but the jews will subdue their rivals.
