Default Luke 32:34 - 04-05-2007, 05:51 PM

Luke 32:34

This bit of Gospel is popular with the Neds

Quote:
Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
The Neds like to say it is Jesus forgiving the pagan Romans for nailing our Savior to a tree. This is only partly true.

Consider
  • Pagans = Hellbound. Frankly while the Roman were forgiven for killing their Savior there is no forgiving from God for not bothering to learn His Holy Word®. Those Roman soldiers now burn in Hell for the crime of being Romans.
  • And If they knew what they doing? The Romans would have still executed Christ. The Romans were very completive and sought to destroy any rival. If they knew Christ was the Son of God® they would have viewed Him as the threat and put Him up against the wall; just like the Romans did to Carthaginians, Greeks, Parthains, Guals and Egyptians. Remember the Romans came up with word “decimate”; kill every tenth person. That says a lot they felt the need to coin a word for it. Much like Microsoft for the Romans there could be only them. The fact that they were able to temporally kill Jesus settled the matter in their minds.

So in this act we do see the unconditional love of Jesus but we must keep in mind the deeper levels God works on. He knows our TRUE Hearts and what we want to do. While those Romans were forgiven for inadvertently attacking God you can bet you last dollar they were damned for wanting to.God being perfect, damned those Romans for the right reason.

And that is why we worship Him.

Time to reclaim our FREEDOM from the “Mullah in Chief” and his growing activist voter hoards of socialists, communists, anti-Semites, anti-Christians, atheists, radical gays and lesbians, feminists, illegal immigrants, Muslims, anti-Anglo whites and others.

Default Re: Luke 32:34 - 04-05-2007, 06:23 PM

I was pondering the meaning of this the other day (while watching a cartoon on TBN; before I realized the depravity of that channel).

So, as Jesus was hanging on the cross, the Romans cast the lots. And Jesus said the line "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."

But why would people who were doing something that HAD to be done, need forgiveness? They wouldn't. Remember, according to James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. The temporary death of Jesus was NEEDED for us (True Christians ™ ) to get to heaven. So, the Romans wouldn't NEED forgiveness for killing Jesus.

So what did they need the forgiveness for?

They needed forgiveness for their ignorance of doing the right thing.

If you do the right thing without knowing you are doing it, it doesn't matter. Then ends do NOT justify the means. In order for it to count as doing the right thing, you have to KNOW that you are doing the right thing.

That is why they needed forgiveness, because they didn't know what they were doing. Not because of what they were doing.

Priase Jesus for the lucky accident those Romans did, though. If I could give them a drop of water on their tongue, I'd do it.

(Conversely, Judas might have known what he was doing, depending on which of the Gospels you read)

Well said, brother.
After all, He said: "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
So ignorance was indeed their true sin, not killing our Lord and Saviour.
He knew they was going to kill Him since He predicted it, and being God, it was really He who made them kill Him..
As He could have prevented it if He wanted to, but Jesus sacrificed Himself to His own Father, who is Himself:
Just so He could forgive us for our sins against His own laws!

GLORY!

I still think it was rather gracious of Him to ask Himself to forgive the Romans their ignorance.

That's real class.

I wonder if in our evening prayers, we should pray for stupid people?

I think I will start adding another line into my prayers (but not every time, because we know how vain repititions piss off God) about dear God please forgive the people who you made that are mormons.

Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Sound like any "church" that you know of who assigns prayers to people for sins?

Wouldn't that be asking God to be someone other than God?

After all, He has made them mormons so He may condemn them to Hell. Perhaps He has also deceived them with sweet, sweet lies, to speed their way to that eternal weenie roast!

Except God is everything, so it is impossible for Him to be against anything, due to His will being all there is.

Brother, don't get caught up in the hippy liebrul net, of thinking that God has limits. God is ALL, the hippie xtians claim "god is love" and only that. Leaving out everything else He has said He is. We can ask God anything, because we worthless humans can never be sure of exactly what God is, or how He is feeling on that particular day.

This ties in with another observation of mine about The Almighty; He is all things and He is perfect. That means when God chooses to be a bastard, you can bet your gold inlay leather Bible that God is the perfect bastard. When God chooses to persecute someone His telling of it “Biblical” is the byword to describe it.

There is no limit to the capacity of God. GLORY!

That perfect bastard later died for our sins.

Yes, Jesus was the perfect bastard. Born of an unwed virgin. Who's father is the Father. There's no DNA test on Jerry Springer who could prove who Jesus' father was.

Truly, the perfect bastard.

(Conversely, Judas might have known what he was doing, depending on which of the Gospels you read)
Jesus had explained it all very eloquently earlier:

John 15:22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.
[. . .]
John 15:24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

Jesus had only spoken to the Jews, not the Romans, therefore the Jews are sinful, not the Romans.

Jesus had only done His great works among the Jews, not the Romans, therefore the Jews are sinful, not the Romans.

The only sin the Romans were guilty of, was the future sin of hosting the Catholic church, which is nothing but Roman pagan rites under a thin veil of Christianity.
