Sheesh, Harry Potter is such nonsense about people casting spells, dealing with demons, talking snakes and some guy surviving his own death, then spreads death destruction to anyone not in his chosen group. You got to wonder were the woman who wrote it got to such nonsense.

I've read all seven Harry Potter books and seen (as of this day, April Sixth Two Thousand Eleven) have seen all of the movies. Entertaining fantasy (not real), and not completely devoid of values. Children should not read it only because they cannot distinguish fantasy and reality. (haha, joke)

Really guy, do you think it is healthy for some child to read some silly story about some guy persecuted by the authorities because he is trying to spread the message of some dead sorcerer he saw is some vision? I think trash with a stupid plot line like that is more like child-abuse to be honest.

Pardon if I spoke too soon. Let me re-evaluate my standpoint. I first read the (admittedly dangerous novels) out of curiosity. Know thine enemy, no? What I found is (which I worded poorly above) is that the novels are entertaining to a degree, partially because of how humorous it is to see just how damned every character would be. However, while not safe for it's target age group, it would be a valuable tool for educating (about just how far some will go to turn us away from God) children who have the intelligence to know the book is wrong.

Firstly, I stumbled upon this website and thread while doing research for a college level class in which I am writing a paper on the importance of literature. I was researching the Harry Potter book banning movement when I came across this website. I do not mean to be rude, but what is the basis for all of this hate? It is a real story, never meant to be taken seriously. If children cannot tell the difference between this and reality, then it is 100% their parent's fault for not bringing them up in a stable and realistic household.

Once again, I am sorry if my original comment came out harsh. I am very educated in Christian worship, beliefs, and the bible. How can this be called an attempt to convert children to paganism? Also, English is a Christian nation as well. Anglicanism is a very popular form of christianity, even in the united states. If children are not exposed to materials like this, simply because there is authentic and childish "witchcraft", then how are these same children going to react when they are hit with the real world later in their lives?

I must thank you, you corrected me on a typo. It should have read, "It isn't a real story".

Firstly though, I am NOT an atheist. Secondly, what if I was? Would i be less of a person if I did not believe in God?

Also, isn't it the parents job to help direct their children's learning and beliefs? Even so what is wrong with children playing pretend games? A healthy imagination is crucial to healthy childhood development.

Hating someone for their religious or lack of religious beliefs is extremely un-christian. While I agree that SOME atheists are simply lazy people, there are many people who constantly seek the truth, yet have not yet found it. For instance an Uncle of mine is currently struggling with his religion after loosing both his wife and daughter in a car accident. It is obvious that by killing his wife and daughter, God was testing your uncle, just like He did with Job.

Guys, God blessed humanity with intelligence and a soul. That is what separates us from the dog sitting next to you. Now are you going to choose to only use one of God's gifts or both of them? I am happy that you guys believe in God, that is awesome! It is a wonderful foundation for a good life on Earth, but it is time to start questioning the world around you. Through that you can truly see the beauty that God created.

Also, and this one is a doozy, let me tell ya. The thought that my Uncle had no faith to begin with coincides with a logic known as predestination. Christians do not believe in predestination. There are a few sub-sections, yet much more extreme sects, that once did, but they have since thrown that logic out.

You uncles family was killed by God to punish him for something he did. Until he repents, he will burn in Hell.

If your uncle was a True Christian™ he would NEVER question the existence of God. Then again, it probably doesn't help that he has a blind nephew leading him down the path to Hell.
