Bruno Edgarsson in Växjö diocese is an opponent of Gay Pride

The Church of Sweden is involved in Pride and show their support for LGBT people, but the chairman of the supreme governing body of Växjö diocese is not at all fond.

- I could never imagine to join the Pride. Homosexuality is just a trend, says Bruno Edgarsson, chairman of the diocese.

Pride in Vaxjo attracted 9000 participants last week, and on 2 June, it is time for Pride in Älmhult.

The Church of Swedem in Växjö was with and arranged events in Vaxjo Pride and priests joined the Pride festival.

But it's not all in Växjö diocese who are fond of it. Diocese council is the highest decision making body in the diocese. When the diocese council of Växjö diocese had a meeting at the end of November last year, the members would submit proposals on how the church should be developed.

In one of the proposals it says this: "Quit participation in the spectacular Pride spectacle. This commitment has no support in the Bible. The church should be a beacon of light".

But the Christian right-wing politican Bruno Edgarsson from Bolmsö is the chairman of the diocese council of Växjö diocese and church warden in Bolmsö. He does not remember who wrote the proposal that the Church should not participate in the Pride. But he agrees with the substance, he does not like Pride.

- I am definitely opposed to Gay Pride, I think it should be man and woman and I can not reconcile myself with LGBTQ.

- Homosexuality is foreign to me, I think it's completely wrong with men who have sexual relations with men, and women who are in bed with women. I believe this because of the Bible and personal opinions. But I do NOT judge them.

Bruno Edgarsson thinks many Christians agrees with him on this issue.

- They do not want gays to get married in the church. And they do absolutely not appreciate the Swedish church being involved in Pride with people who are queer, transgender, homos or bisexuals, says Bruno Edgarsson

- The Church has lost many members in this, in my circle of friends I know several who have left the church because of that homosexuals can marry in the church, he says, and continues:

- I could not reconcile myself with that homosexuals had to enter into partnerships, and they certainly crossed the line when they even started to get married in the church. Now, you can not change that. But several priests in Ljungby neighborhood would probably think it would be very difficult to marry homos in the church.

Bruno Edgarsson asks why there are so many people today who come forward and say that they are homosexuals and bisexuals.

- I do not know why they choose to be homosexuals, but I think it has become a trend among young men and women today to be gay, and then it is not easy to get out of that trend.

- In the TV series and movies in today's society they always have some gay or lesbian character in them, it glorified to be a homo, says Bruno Edgarsson.
