I was reading the other day how, according to Greek Mythology,
humans were originally created with 4 arms, 4 legs and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, and, by doing this condemned them to spend their lives in search of their other halves.
And like you, I thought, "Well, how would that work? Wouldn't there be blood all over the place and only half a brain, and what about the bits that women have?"
It is clear that someone who drank too much Rezina made that one up off the top of his head (or half-head!)
I turned to my library and read of how in Norse fairy tales,
the gods eventually formed the first man and woman, Ask and Embla, from two tree trunks. And then… you're not going to believe this: the god Odin gave the logs spirit and life, the goddess Ve gave them movement, mind and intelligence and the god Vili gave them shape, speech, feelings and the five senses. The gods then built a fence around where they lived, Midgard, to protect them from the giants that were around at the time.
Seems strange that the gods (how many were there? Why were there so many? Why was this done by a committee?) would use trees to make people – there’s nothing much that resembles a tree about us, is there? Perhaps these Norse types had a lot of trees and no imagination. And why would there be giants? And where are they now?
It’s the “trees” bit that lets this story down, isn’t it?
Flicking through the pages at random, I came across the Eskimo children’s bedtime story, and I guarantee that you’ll never guess how man came to the earth… read on:
The raven made the world and the waters with beats of his wings. He had the powers of both a man and bird, and could change from one to the other simply by pulling his bead above his head as one lifts up a mask. His earth was dark and silent. He had created water and mountains, and had filled the land with growing pea plants. After five days, one of the pea-pods burst open; out popped a fully-grown man,
The Raven was astonished. He had had no idea that something like this would happen. However, he realized that berries alone wouldn't be enough to feed man so the Raven then made mountain sheep from clay.
The Raven went on making fish, birds and other animals, and waved his wings over each one to bring it to life. Each one he put some place out of Man’s reach so that he wouldn't kill them all – the fish in the rivers and the birds in the air. Already Raven could see other men growing in pea-pods, and they were soon going to emerge hungry too.
Raven created a huge bear from the same clay, to make sure Man had something to fear. After a few days, Raven noticed that Man was lonely and built a woman out of clay: "Your helper and companion,”said the Raven. Man was very pleased. Together they filled the earth with their children and before long Raven’s earth filled with the sound of many voices, and overflowing with many forms of life.
Now, you can see how these Eskimos got it all wrong –
Pea-pods = No
Clay= Yes. (But not the woman - that was the man - Adam)
Women as helpers = Yes
A bird making them, No.
This led me to think how, over the centuries, the world has been deluded either by false prophets or fools who are too proud to admit that they did not know.
Each one of those poor deluded primitives has been lied to and as a result - their souls are in the eternal fires of Hell.
Not one story of how man came to be created is in any way believable. As I read more of them, some aspect of the Truth of Genesis may shine through but, for the majority the stories are no more than entertaining trivia and lies enforced by fools.
The idea of God making man from mud and woman from the man's rib is so obviously true that it is a complete mystery why anyone would even begin to think that man's arrival on earth was any other way!
AN APPEAL
A serious aspect of this is that thousands of souls are condemned to an eternity in Hell – that is the price you pay for listening to false prophets and fools.
