Keller's Cellar, Mission Road -
05-12-2009, 11:27 PM
I've been meaning to post about this, but the last time I was in Freehold, just as I was approaching town I stopped at Keller's Cellar, that Rathskellar place on Mission Road. It's the place with stained glass windows.
Anyway, the good news is they have really good schnitzel, and the spaetzle is also excellent. (Sister Victory recommended it.) But I also noticed the whole place is decorated with these old-fashioned advertisements, magazine covers, etc. They do NOT seem very Godly, AT ALL!
This one was hanging over my booth, and I removed it to show Bobby-Joe. I'm really upset we're lured into a place that celebrates our German heritage, then we get all this Olde Worlde Latin Superstition doo doo on the walls? Thanks but no thanks! Anyway, I think it should be looked into. (And why do they even have Portuguese ads in there if it's a German restaurant? ARE the owners German?)

But Sister, look at how silly it is. The Portugese woman is blaming a doll because she burned her husband's steak, and knows she's going to get a beating!
Can you imagine any more ridiculous superstition?
Surely, they were simply trying to point out how irrational those who turn from God really are.

I think we need to hear a little more about these posters. I have absolutely no concern over the publication and display IF there accompanies the poster, some public information statement saying how ridiculous all this is.
For example,
- humanoids with wings (fairies),
- magic appearances of food and/or drink,
- promises of endless wealth,
- realms of the dead,
- talking animals,
- punishment of the rich and powerful, etc.,
figure all too often in these ancient folk tales and can deceive mislead the simple-minded into a lifetime of misery and pointless belief, thus detracting from concentrating on Faith in God.
M't:7:15: Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

...Not only all of that, but the pictorial use of space makes me sick. Asking a True Christian™ to infer three-dimensionality from pictorial areas of positive and negative space -- with insufficiently concrete imagery to locate oneself within that space -- Well, I feel a bit like Jesus Himself, when they handed Him a Roman penny, and He looked at it confusedly and asked, "Whose is this image and superscription?" Exactly. He couldn't make heads or tails out of what was represented on it!

There might be something to what you say, Brother Lee. Is she supposed to be floating? Levitating? Is she suspending the peppers on the right by magic?
Okay, now I am officially creeped out. I'm not going back, and I think we should make an announcement that we're changing the restaurant's rating until it's all sorted out.
