Yes, you read the title correctly. The bill is now going before the full House for debate.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Lawmakers are moving ahead with a proposal to name the Bible as Louisiana's official state book, despite concerns the bill would land the Legislature in court.
A House municipal committee advanced the bill Thursday with an 8-5 vote, sending it to the full House for debate.

Rep. Thomas Carmody, R-Shreveport, said he sponsored the proposal after a constituent made the request. But Carmody insisted the bill wasn't designed to be a state-endorsement of Christianity or a specific religion.

"It's not to the exclusion of anyone else's sacred literature," he told the House committee. Again, later he said, "This is not about establishing an official religion of the state of Louisiana."
Lawmakers who voted against the measure said it raises questions about whether Louisiana would be violating the separation of church and state.
Rep. Wesley Bishop, D-New Orleans, said as a preacher's son, he loved the concept. But he said as a lawyer, he thinks the bill has problems. He voted against the measure.
"I think we're going to open ourselves up to a lawsuit. You can't adopt the Bible and not adopt Christianity," he said.
Other lawmakers objected to Carmody's proposal to use a specific version of the Bible, so that language was stripped from the bill before it was passed.
Rep. Barbara Norton, D-Shreveport, said she didn't feel qualified to "vote on anything that's related to the Bible," so she voted against it.
Rep. Ebony Woodruff, D-Harvey, said adopting the Bible as the state's official book could be offensive to people who live in the state and who aren't Christian.
"You're OK with offending some of the citizens of this state?" she asked.
"It's not meant to be offensive," Carmody replied. "There's no requirement that they would have to follow this particular text."
Voting for the bill were Reps. Taylor Barras, R-New Iberia; Johnny Berthelot, R-Gonzales; Robert Billiot, D-Westwego; Terry Brown, I-Colfax; Mike Danahay, D-Sulphur; Dalton Honore, D-Baton Rouge; Stephen Ortego, D-Carencro; and Tom Willmott, R-Kenner.
Voting against the bill were Bishop, Norton, Woodruff and Reps. Jared Brossett, D-New Orleans, and Austin Badon, D-New Orleans, chairman of the committee.

We really should get a similar bill introduced into all state legislatures.

Seems to me that all against this bill are Canaanites AND Democrats.

Great bill but these times when all Good Christians are persecuted, I am afraid it is never going to be true. We must pray for it to happen, so the Louisiana has better possibilities to see the Light.

Ain't Louisiana the most catlick state in The Holy USA? And those catlicks don't even speak American?

I am sure that catlics are also going to be against this, they hate and want to use that false Roman Catholic edition of the Bible

Unfortunately, Thomas Carmody has withdrawn the bill.

Republican Rep. Thomas Carmody told the state House on Monday that he wouldn't pursue the measure. He said lawmakers had told him they were worried the bill was becoming a distraction from more important debates, like the state budget.
Carmody had said he sponsored the proposal after a constituent made the request. He insisted the bill wasn't designed to be a state-endorsement of Christianity or a specific religion.
But lawmakers said it raises questions about whether Louisiana would be violating the separation of church and state. Opponents said it could land the Legislature in a costly lawsuit.

I can't believe that. How can the state budget be more important than the Bible?
And what's this nonsense about separation of church and state? What is written on all our dollar bills? "In God We Trust".
The first amendment reads

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

1. Congress = congress of the US, not of Louisiana. Louisiana is not subject to this
2. How is making the KJV Bible, establishing a religion or prohibiting the free exercise of religion? It's not.


I am profoundly disappointed in Thomas Carmody - a spineless man who's ceded his testicles to the Demoncrats and satanic forces.

I believe the joos, who at first "didn't take a stance on the bill" have been calculating how much money they earn/lose, and the result is this.

I'm devastated!! Indeed, the end of Times is nearer than ever. Satan laughs. Homer lobby etc. must have put enormous pressure to fight God's will.

They aren't thinking this through. Had they adopted the Bible as their official book in 2004, Hurricane Katrina never would have happened. If they just accept the Bible, they can solve their budget programs by shuttering their anti-flooding and emergency services programs, safe in the knowledge that God would be watching over them.

Maybe also the lazy frog-eating catlicks had moved to Canada, if there is only the Real Bible in use. Many social problems solved!
