Abstain from all appearance of evil. -
04-14-2008, 04:01 PM
Recently, I've read some rather disturbing comments from the unsaved on this board, to the effect that we should try to get as close as possible to God's law without crossing the line. We True Christians™ should have none of that. The Bible doesn't just tell us to avoid evil; it tells us to abstain from all appearance of evil (I Thess. 5:22).
Let me give you an example. I'm sure that all True Christian™ men forbid the women under their authority to wear gold, pearls, and designer dresses in conformity with the following Scripture verse:
1 Tim. 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array....
But do you also make sure that they don't wear gold-toned jewelry, faux pearls, or "designer" duds from an eBay seller in China? To abstain from all appearance of evil, you should.
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. Otherwise, if what you read on this site offends you, then you're offended by Almighty God and His Word, not by us.

It is comparative, isn't it? At your level of income, hand-me-downs and 5 year old jeans and T-shirts are probably fine, but for someone as spiritually exalted and financially comfortable as Mrs Bowers, her apparel is modest.
I harbour no doubts that, should she wish, her finances would allow her to clothe herself in a Snow-Leopard fur coat bedecked with diamonds – that may be “the appearance of evil”.
As it is, her unimpeachable sense of dress is thus a paragon of modesty and a lesson to us all.

As long as you are still living and breathing, it isn't too late, friend. It's not too late until after your heart has beat its last beat, your lungs have breathed their last breath, and you are standing there naked before God Almighty. Then it will be too late, but not today.
You have time to repent and turn away from evil now, friend. Jesus loves you and wants you to be saved. Won't you turn to Christ and give up your sinful lifestyle today?

Upon request I will cite scripture for all these facts in God's Holy Word.

I caught my wife watching that Satan Channel (QVC) wherein they sell this cursed product called "Diamonique" which admittedly sounds like a street name for a common whore, however; it is a type of faux diamond. These things come about the size of a communion wafer and are dirt cheap. This is nothing short of QVC (queer vice contribution, I think) attempting to lure hardworking Christian women away with the temptation of "appearing" to have the means to afford a 681 carat diamond ring. We discussed it at length and then I threw the TV out with the trash simply to preclude further incidents of this type. Problem solved -
For shame, for shame, communist bastards.

Don't get me started on girls these days and their makeup. I passed a gaggle of schoolgirls this morning and they looked like the victims of an explosion at a Crayola factory. And to add insult to injury they hardly glanced at the flyers I gave them.
I think it's time to show tough love in more "orthodox" ways.

A - How do I delete my account?
B - Don, that's caused by capitalism, not socialism.
C - Jeb, it might be because you look like a pedophile.
D - Is wrath not a sin? Is pride not a sin? For there is wrath on these "Christian" boards, and high pride in belief and self.

Dear Hatemonger;
I'm sorry, but it is our policy NEVER to remove the account of an unsaved fool. Your belligerent hatemongering will remain for future unsaved scum to see and learn from for all eternity (or until Jesus returns to slay most of the earth, whichever comes first).
Jesus called you here for a reason, so you might rethink your selfish tantrum and stick around.
If you'd really like to remove yourself from our Godly forum, all you need to do is to click on that tiny red "x" in the upper righthand corner of your computer screen. Then close your computer, stand up, and walk away.

I find it quite disturbing that you attempt to guide people on the true meaning of scripture when you fail to understand even the basic tennants of Biblical translations.
As any scholor knows, the KJV is not the most accurate translation available of the original Hebrew and Greek. Now I'm not saying it is a bad translation by any means! I mean hey, the thing stood the test of time since 1611! I regularly read the KJV, and credit my comfort of old(er) English with the fact that my first and primary Bible as a kid was KJV. But let's face it, there are several other very good translations as well. To claim that the KJV is the "only" good translation demonstrates scholarly ignorance. Moe importantly, it demonstrates a bent toward legalism.
Personally, I find it best to use my grandfathers approach. Read from the original Greek and Hebrew text when preparing sermons. But then, I suppose we can't all be fluent in this as my grandfather was. And say, come to think of it he never did stand up to preach and start spouting Greek or Hebrew at the congregation. But he did use more than one translation!

I have received a private warning for "disrespecting God's Holy Word". I now make this "warning" public so all may judge.
I cherish God's Holy Word and would never disrespect it. His Word is the divine truth, inspired by God Himself! It is useful for teaching, correcting, rebuking, and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be fully equipped for every good work!
No sir, I do not disrespect God's Holy word, and I never will. Moreover, I do not -- as you do -- disrespect any accurate translation of His Holy word. KJV, NKJ and ESV, Die Luther Bibel (German) and others are excellent. Let's be clear that I am talking only about actual translations here that go back to the original Greek, Hebrew, and Arameic. They are all the Holy Word of God if they have been accurately translated.
But sir, I do stand by my observations that you are legalistic. You seem to have missed the very truths of God that He chose to revel in His Holy word. You may want to consider reading our Lord Jesus Christ words to the Sadducees and Pharisees. All of the Bible was given to us that we might learn His will for our lives. I belive you may find His words to them instructive to yourself as well.
Please know I write this all with humility, as a fellow servant of Jesus Christ. I pont only to the Bible as the source of truth, and pray that my words mirror that perfect Truth.

I am sorry that you seem to have such a twisted view of Christians. I have to wonder if this is really what you think, or if you know deep down that most Christians are not at all like what this site portrays.
In truth, almost any Christian who runs across the discussions on this site are shocked and perplexed that somebody claiming to be a "Christian" would be spouting such legalistic nonsense. And perhaps some, like myself, will attempt to engage and correct the error before finding out the whole thing is real.
Christ came to this earth to demonstrate His love for humans who chose to reject Him. To this day He holds out His hands in Love.
I am sorry that too many humans, who make terrible mistakes, fail to mirror that love.

You're, what is commonly referred to as, a "cherry picker". Please explain to me where my views are twisted, when they are based in God's Word and God's Word alone. If you break one law you break them all (James 2:10). Are you not guilty of that?
God wants us (Christians) to kill: faggots ( Leviticus 18:22-23) ( Leviticus 20:13) (Romans 1:24-32), adulterers ( Leviticus 20:10), fornicators ( Leviticus 21:9), everyone who isn't a Christian ( Exodus 22:19) ( 2 Chronicles 15:12-13) ( Deuteronomy 13:7-19), people who don't listen to priests ( Deuteronomy 17:12), witches (Exodus 22:17), fortune tellers ( Leviticus 20:27), children who hit their father ( Exodus 21:15), children who swear at their parents (Proverbs 20:20) ( Leviticus 20:9), children of sinners ( Isaiah 14:21), non-virgin brides ( Deuteronomy 22:20-21), people who commit blasphemy ( Leviticus 24:10-16).

Most Christians who "run across the discussion on this site" are going to Hell. Just like you, they believe falsies about God that just so happen to agree with their personal views.

Please give some scripture to back up the claim that Jesus came here for humans who choose to reject Him. Jesus came here to give us a chance to spend eternity in Heaven. In order to take advantage of that opportunity, one needs to repent for their sins, faggotry, adultery, fornication, atheism, etc. You seem to think that you can do whatever you want as long as you believe in Jesus.
Unless you give us some scripture, backing up your ramblings, I see no point in continuing this conversation. You obviously think you know what God thinks or you wouldn't blatantly defy His Word.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
David
Exodus 21:20-21
20And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. 21Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
