Cross Day 304: Luke 22-24 - 10-06-2016, 05:35 AM

Today's text gives us, again, after Mark and Matthew, closure to the Earthly existence of Jesus Christ. These are powerful chapters emphasizing crucial points of True Christianity™ as follows:
  • Betrayal leading to damnation and betrayal leading to eternal Glory!
  • Evidence that the Catholics are twisting direct commands of Jesus to mock Him!
  • How the Jews are responsible for Jesus's death even if it was His own plan from the beginning!
  • Irrefutable eyewitness testimony regarding the Resurrection of Jesus!
  • Irrefutable evidence of the uselessness of secular logic when dealing with Jesus!
Luke 22 begins with a glimpse into the minds of unbelievers, Jews, and Satan as it describes how Judas decided to betray Jesus.

Luke 22:3-4
Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

While we know (as does Jesus) that the sacrifice of Jesus was absolutely necessary to Redeem those who accept Him (John 3:16-18; more about that next time), the crime of Judas is still unpardonable and repulsive. It was necessary to utilize him in betrayal; it is equally necessary that he should spend the rest of Eternity in infinite agony.

After taking care of the transaction, Judas joins the others for the last supper. A pivotal speech by Jesus clarifies the meaning and purpose of this refreshing meal once and for all.

Luke 22:19
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

"In remembrance"! Catholics, take note! NOT transubstantiation! NOT cannibalism! These words that need not be interpreted tell us that the billions of Catholics that swarm the Earth are all hellbound (James 2:10).

The disciples then start to quarrel and discuss which one of them will be the greatest in Heaven. This means that they are still confused and apparently incapable of cross-referencing to Luke 15:7 that we discussed only a few days ago. Especially Peter boasts, but is he a True Christian™ yet? We shall see. It is going to be Jesus's cock that reveals the cowardly nature of Peter.

Luke 22:33-34
And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

The supper is over. Jesus has some doubts and prays to Himself as God (John 1:1) on the Mount of Olives (Luke 22:39-45). The moment passes and Judas enters the scene to betray Jesus with homosexual innuendo.

Luke 22:47
And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

Now the action speeds up big time! A sword fight! Some healing! Peter becomes the frightened chicken to Jesus's cock and denies Him thrice. Through this valley of the Shadow of Death (Psalms 23:4), Peter understands his total depravity as a good True Christian™ man, and now the healing can begin.

Luke 22:62
And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

Meanwhile, Jesus is being persecuted by the Jewish elite who wish to know if He is the Son of God (He actually is).

Luke 22:70
Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

Now that was a long chapter, but there's more action for today. Luke 23 opens with the Roman Mr. Pilate asking Jesus the same questions. He is a man overly obsessed with hygiene (Matthew 27:24). The depravity of the Catholic church is, again, emphasized by the fact that they consider this man to be a saint. Pilate and Herod now play catching with Jesus in the role of the baseball, but as the hardcore bureaucrats that they are, they are unable to bring closure to God's Plan of Suffering and Redemption. It is the Jews that have to carry on the task of Jesus's execution.

Luke 23:23-25
And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

Thus, through the necessary but disgusting crime of the Romans and the even more necessary but repulsive action by the Jews poor Jesus is condemned to death exactly as He planned it. On the Cross, Jesus wastes no time but converts a vile criminal to True Christianity™ with a guaranteed spot in Heaven (Luke 23:43) and, upon His death, yields yet another convert, the first one among the gentiles.

Luke 23:26-47

And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

Jesus is dead. Things do not seem to be too good. As Luke 23 closes and we enter Luke 24, the body of Jesus is in the tomb and the Easter festivities among the disciples seem to have lost their gaiety. It is the first day of the week, very early in the morning and in mourning some women come to the tomb and become the first eyewitnesses for God's Miracle.

Luke 24:5-6
In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:

There we have it: Evidence. Unlike abhorrent evolutionists, who were not there when the "Precambrian dinosaurs were killed", these women were actually there and saw it with their own eyes. Irrefutable proof! Of course, at this point, it is just the words of women, which is less reliable than a man's testimony (Luke 24:11). Jesus knew that future generations would need even more tangible evidence and He was ready to provide it! On the road to Emmaus, very far (7 miles) from Jerusalem, Jesus appeared again!

Luke 24:30-31
And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

This means that Jesus could now levitate for long distances. Even more and more proof was, however, available.

Luke 24:36-39
While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

This is tangible evidence, not just visual. The disciples were able to touch Jesus all over. Luke 24 is a chapter that will last with your forever, as it is the living testimony of the Truth™ value of True™ Christianity. More than ten (>10) eyewitness testimonials reported to give us absolute certainty of Jesus as the resurrected Living God our Savior and Lord. On the same day Jesus took the last nice ambulatory trip to Bethany, blessed the disciples and was carried up into Heaven (Luke 24:51).

The Gospel of Luke closes with reaffirmation of the decoupling of secular logic and Christian Revelation, as Luke's Jesus ascends on the day of His resurrection while Act's Jesus (we'll meet Him soon) spends 40 days on Earth between Resurrection and Ascension (Acts 1:3). It is incredible evidence of God's omnipotence (Revelation 19:6) that these both time frames are equally True™ and reliable.

Luke 24:52-53
And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

Next time: Jesus=God: Irrefutable Proof and more action!

2 Kings 18:25 - Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
