Default Day 296. Mark 13-16 - 07-15-2014, 11:07 PM

Mark 13-16

Jesus tells of the destruction of the temple. He tells some of the guys that trouble is coming, and they are going to be persecuted.

12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.

13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

It's gonna be bad.

17 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

Don't be pregnant or nursing when that time comes.

26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

Webcam of the mount of olives, so you can see when he comes back.

28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:

Apparently Jesus DOES know something about fig trees. Just a few days before he cursed a tree, now he's all "hey, let me tell you about this tree!"

34 For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

You don't know when he's coming back, but you had better not be asleep, Jesus hates it when people are asleep.

36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Stay awake guys. (and remember, when the master is there, you give him gifts!)

Mark 14

1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

Again, we know what others who are against this are thinking.

3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

Remember, the guys were pissed that she didn't sell it and give the money to the poor.

7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

Master is there, master gets the gifts. As opposed to the other times where this saying is, in Mark, there is added "and whensoever ye will ye may do them good" Which means, there are always going to be poor people, as long as you do good for them sometime in the future, that's all that really matters. You don't have to do it today, you can do it in the future. So, it's ok to do the pat your pockets like you are fumbling around and can't find your wallet, when the homeless guy says "hey buddy can you spare some change".

9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

And it was done by... (we are told in John, so you'll just have to wait!)

Matthew, Mark, and Luke don't really care about the "memorial of her" apparently.

Judas then goes to tell the priests to betray Jesus.

18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

Again, the "who me???" but, apparently Judas has already done the betrayal, or at least started to. (more on this later)

24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

"Shed for MANY"; Matthew said "shed for many for the remission of sins".

Then they go to the mount of Olives. Peter is told he will betray Jesus.

30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Oddly, in Matthew, the cock only had to crow one time.

Jesus prays, everyone falls asleep. (Didn't he just complain about people sleeping on the master at the end of chapter 13? These guys don't understand him at all).

43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

Judas kissed him. They took Jesus, someone pulls a sword and cuts off an ear.

Jesus was like, why couldn't I just have some peace up here in the garden, you could have taken me at any point before.

49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

Everyone else runs away. except...

51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

WTF is that about? No one knows who the young naked boy was. According to this wack job, he was a kid who was raised from the dead. The linen cloth argument makes some sense, as the only time linen is mentioned in the new testament is with burials.

Peter then denies Jesus, because that's what he does.

Mark 15

1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

They take Jesus to Pilate.

7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

This is a verse that many Bible skeptics have a LOT of problem with. The Romans WOULD NEVER, repeat NEVER let a guy who killed one of them go free.

Pilate is so care free, that he lets someone go who murdered a Roman, to crucify a person who committed no crime whatsoever against rome.

15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

Why did Pilate have him scourged, he didn't care. I guess if you are going to have a Roman crucifixion, you go all the way with it. Without it, it'd be like seeing KISS in concert without makeup. Like, getting shots of absinthe without the fire. Like seeing Phantom of the Opera and having BENSON be the lead role.

So, they crucified him.

26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, The King Of The Jews.

"The King of The Jews" in Matthew it said "This is Jesus The King of The Jews".

34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

"Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" in Matthew it was "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" Both translate to the same.

37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

Veil of the temple broke. Joseph gets the body, puts it in the tomb.

46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

The kind of linen you would put on a young naked boy, apparently.

Mark 16

1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Who the heck is Salome? Perhaps it's the mother of Zebedees children. (Matthew 27:56)

Stone is moved, angel is inside, he says "Jesus ain't here".

9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Oddly, Mark mentions Mary's devils before it's said again. It's like it's an afterthought. That's some horrible storytelling. It's like when a drunk guy tells you a story... "and with them was Mary (Jesus' mom) and mary, and mary, and the other mary... oh, did i mention mary magdalene had seven devils? cuz she did"

11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

Then he appears to two of them on the road. We'll get the name of the road in Luke.

14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

Mark doesn't mention what happened to Judas.

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Mark's Great Commission, isn't as good as Matthew's.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

He gives the commission, then he left. That's it.

So what have we learned today? (That we haven't already learned in Matthew)

1. There was a naked boy in the garden.

2. Mary Magdalene had 7 devils.

3. Eli or Eloi, it doesn't really matter.

Indeed, God knows His name and He will tell you when you are using it in vain.

NOTE: Jesus did not say "Allah", Christ was not a moon worshiper.
