I must say this holds a little bit of truth, due the internet it became more easy to to find stuff about Goth, whether this is an positive evolution I don't know at this point. Back when I was finding my Goth side the scene was more underground and parties were only known to those who went out in the scene, so you had to be introduced more or less to it by friends (or find a partyflyer in some music stores). The net made it more easy to find out where the parties are, this also attracts more posers who think they are Goth.

In the days before the widespread internet it was indeed parties who made one realize he/she was a Goth, most people were taken along with friends to Gothparties. Nowadays the people can inform themselves via the internet so they going out thing is more or less dissapeared.
