Irish Catholics Worship Tree Stump -
07-11-2009, 06:36 AM
Catholics in Limerick, Ireland have decided that the Virgin Mary has magically appeared in the trunk of a tree as it was being cut down. Apparently, Mary is now the goddess of arborists. And rather portly.
This “Virgin timber” looks much more like Mary with the rosary, don’t you think?
I couldn’t make this up, friends. Well, I probably could, but I didn’t: NEARLY 2,000 people have signed a petition seeking to prevent the removal of a tree stump on the grounds of a Co Limerick church, which they believe depicts an image of the Blessed Virgin.
Best of all are the responses from the local Catholic priest and the diocese themselves, the hosts to this woody wonder!
Local parish priest Fr Willie Russell went on the local radio station to tell people not to worship the tree. “There’s nothing there . . . it’s just a tree . . . you can’t worship a tree.”
Better yet, the diocese comments: The church’s response to phenomena of this type is one of great scepticism.
While we do not wish in any way to detract from devotion to Our Lady, we would also wish to avoid anything which might lead to superstition.
Well, that’s a relief. I’m sure we can all agree that the last thing people who claim crackers magically turn into the flesh of the Son of God at a wave of the hand from a man in a dress and funny hat want to do is encourage superstition!
Why can't these people find Jesus, instead of looking for outlines of His dead mother?

The Catholic church should be very careful.
If their comments about this tree hurt anyone's feelings or beliefs they could be arrested under the new Irish blasphemy Laws

Well, considering this is Ireland, have they checked the blood alcohol levels of all those involved ??
It looks like a tree stump to me . . . .

How come when there is any sort of basic silhoutte of a head or shoulders it is automatically assumed to be the Virgin Mary? I think they are actually images of Satan-worshippers in cloaks. Worshipping the tree is akin to worshipping Satan.

I fear that what you seek is raised to the level of the absurd when it comes to the Irish. Those officials charged with the task to check blood alcohol levels should in turn have their blood alcohol levels tested. There really is no accountability in Ireland – by definition.

And so the unsaved Irish take blasphemy to a new level. At least the Golden Calf the Israelite heretics worshipped was kind of impressive on some level, it takes a true Godless mick to worship a tree stump. Astonishingly, they manage to outdo the shrubbery-molesting wickedans in their idiocy, at least those folk generally worship whole trees and not just stumps!
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.
God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

From grilled-cheese sandwiches to this — is there anything that the papists won't worship, apart from Jesus?
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. Otherwise, if what you read on this site offends you, then you're offended by Almighty God and His Word, not by us.

Well, I was really squinting and trying to see how the stump could possible look like the Virgin Mary and the only thing I saw was the Swamp Monster. My cats would love to work their pointed claws on that stump for a while. I am trying to picture the outrage of those drunk micks seeing my cats perched upon their false idol clawing away. Notice how it just happens to look identical to a twenty's horror movie? But I figure nothing like stupid, angry, paptists protecting their idolatry. Here look:
Genesis 1:20-22
21And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
