Is it wrong...? -
01-09-2010, 08:27 AM
Hello Brothers and Sisters,
Forgive my ignorance, but I am having a tough time in this decision. Recently, a brother from my congregation has approached me and offered to make me his wife. He is a good man but he is also much older than me. (He is in his late 50's while I am in my early 20's) My parents say he is a good Christian man, but I still feel uncertain. I feel if I decline his offer, that the Lord Jesus will find me ungrateful.
Any and all advice is appreciated.
Thank You and God bless.

No it's not wrong at all. You should marry someone because you love them, and because you think the two of you could have a good, fulfilling life together. Just because a guy is "a good man" doesn't mean he would make a good husband for you. My sister in law is 40 and just gave birth to her third child, so don't believe anyone who says you become an "old maid" after 25... that is THE most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
If you're unsure, date the guy, court the guy, do whatever is socially acceptable for you to do to figure out whether or not you're attracted to him and could see yourself having children with him, spending the rest of your life with him, and being happy. This is the biggest decision of your life, and should not be done just because he's a good guy.

I would say that your parents are to blame here for not finding you a husband sooner.
Are you and the gentleman both still virgins?

Best to get that heretofore barren womb churning out soldiers for Christ !!!
Jud 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are un Godly among them of all their un Godly deeds which they have un Godly committed, and of all their hard [speeches] which un Godly sinners have spoken against him.

Why is it necessary for her to have children by such-and-such an age? Since this community seems to enjoy backing things up with scripture, can anyone show me a passage from the Bible that says a woman should have children by such-and-such an age? If the goal of our life is to please God in all that we do, can she not please God just the same whether she has children or not?

A woman often has only so many 'productive years'. These must not be squandered.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

You dont have to do what you dont want to m'love. If you don't want to marry him that is fine if you fair enough. Dont feel pressured I am sure there is another great christian man round the corner for you. Plus he is a bit old for you 30 years diffrence that will cause some tension later in the marriage your only young! Live first.

Define squandering. Where in the Bible does it say that a woman's lot is to bear children?

James speaks the truth once again.
Even scientists will confirm it is better to start early with children unless you want them to be mongoloids or homersexuals. Also, if you start late, you may end up with only 7 or 8 children.
I don't have a Bible quote that springs directly to mind, but you may consider this:
Genesis 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

Next thing we know, the same lady will be starting a thread about how she decided to be a slut and then got raped. Do you see how these things happen? It is so clear. First God sends you a man for you to marry and then you say "no, I want to be a slut". Then the next man God sends will treat you like a slut and then that is the man you must marry.
I pray with that you shall find wisdom before this happens!

If you are too late with having children, then there is a high probability they will be deformed in various ways. It is medical fact. That's why doctors will do lots of checks to see if your child is a mongoloid or homersexual and stuff like that if you are old.
Here, I quote from the very first hit in Google:
Quote:
From medical point of view, a woman is physically ready for childbirth during 20 and 25 years, this is the best period.
|
Exactly how many children can a woman bear in a period of 10-15 years, Ms. Genius?

I didnt tell her to sleep around at all you reapporipated what I said. I said Live not sleep around they are too diffrent things. I doubt she has seen the world or gone out with friends live a little first living dosnt have to meen sleeping around. Obviously a 50 year old man is not right for her! She dosnt want to marry him so she shouldnt have to! Also by him being older means a higher risk in downsyndrome and infertalisation also erectile disfuncation she is better off with a younger man.

Well, she's certainly better off if she's benefiting from male guidance.
Speaking of which... your tart tongue betrays you as a hellbound feminazi, who practically nails our poor Jesus back onto the cross (as if it were possible!) with your every ill-concieved post. Is there no man in your life to whom you're subservient in love?

In school, I knew this girl who had REALLY REALLY OLD parents. She was 15 and they were like in their FIFTIES!!!
Anyways, when she graduated, she moved downtown by the college and started not shaving her legs (GROSS!!) and dressing like a boy.
You guessed it, turns out she decided to be a lesbian!!!
And all because her parents were old and selfish when they had her. I wish people would think about their kids instead of themselves all the time!
Jesus wants you to have kids, that's why I need a husband ASAP. I'm going to be old soon!

Homosexuality isnt a deformity.
Also yes male guidence from her FATHER!
She is in her 20s although she is ready to have kids does not mean she will have to marry whatever comes her way. Also I am married. I am not a femnazi i am thinking of this poor girl. Also if the man is to old it was recently discovered that, that can cause diformity in a child also.

What an excellent point! Waiting until your mid thirties to produce soldiers for Christ is morally selfish.

First of all, this is NOT a debate forum. Please read THIS thread before making an even bigger fool of yourself.
Secondly, while the internets might seem to be "free" to you, this particular corner of the internets is a privately owned Christian forum. The rights you have on this forum are listed HERE. Please contact a Pastor if you feel that any of your rights have been violated.
Finally, your unsaved opinions or tantrums are not even slightly of interest to us. We follow the Holy Word of God TO THE LETTER, and make no apologies for that. One of the most important commandments in the Bible tells us to avoid unsaved scum such as yourself. You wandered in here uninvited, and unwelcome.
I will pray that the Holy Spirit enter you and chase the demons out of your rectum and let Jesus fill you with His Grace. If you use your God-given free will to reject Christ and His temporary death on the cross for my sins, then you are sending yourself to hellfire.
Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:
Hypocrites (Matthew 24:51), The Unforgiving (Mark 11:26), Homosexuals (Romans 1:26, 27), Fornicators (Romans 1:29), The Wicked (Romans 1:29), The Covetous (Romans 1:29), The Malicious (Romans 1:29), The Envious (Romans 1:29), Murderers (Romans 1:29), The Deceitful (Romans 1:29), Backbiters (Romans 1:30), Haters of God (Romans 1:30), The Despiteful (Romans 1:30), The Proud (Romans 1:30), Boasters (Romans 1:30), Inventors of evil (Romans 1:30), Disobedient to parents (Romans 1:30), Covenant breakers (Romans 1:31), The Unmerciful (Romans 1:31), The Implacable (Romans 1:31), The Unrighteous (1Corinthians 6:9), Idolaters (1Corinthians 6:9), Adulterers (1Corinthians 6:9), The Effeminate (1Corinthians 6:9), Thieves (1Corinthians 6:10), Drunkards (1Corinthians 6:10), Reviler (1Corinthians 6:10), Extortioners (1Corinthians 6:10), The Fearful (Revelation 21:8), The Unbelieving (Revelation 21:8), The Abominable (Revelation 21:8), Whoremongers (Revelation 21:8), Sorcerers (Revelation 21:8), All Liars (Revelation 21:8)
