Default 2 Samuel 13:15 Love Turns To Hate - 10-22-2016, 06:50 PM

Ladies, we see here what happens when you give a man occasion to sin.

We read in God's Holy Word about a girl who caused some serious trouble.

2 Samuel 13 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
2 And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her.

Clearly, this girl was parading around in her panties or some such or her half-brother would not have been so smitten with her. And the Bible plainly states that the poor guy was "vexed" and that he "loved her".

And because he was so love-sick, he actually took to his bed and asked for his half-sister to attend him.

In verse 9 of this book, the boy makes his move to be alone with his lady-love:
And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him . . . he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.

Now, the girl shows at least some common sense when she tells her half-brother to ask their dad to make a proper marriage between them

. . .Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.

Mind you, we have the Bible's word on it that the poor boy was "vexed" because "he love her." This condition didn't develop out of nowhere. Later on in verse 18 we have Holy Spirit Eye Witness testimony that she dresses to the nines went she went to visit her half-brother alone in his bedroom.

18 And she had a garment of divers colours upon her . . .

If a girl dresses like that, can you blame a boy for sitting up and taking notice?

So, as verse 14 establishes, Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.

A couple of important insights can be gleaned here. One, strong men take what they want and our dear Donald Trump is only following in the footsteps of many Biblical predecessors. Two, the young woman had a voice, which her beleaguered half-brother couldn't seem to "hearken" to because of all those bright colors she was wearing.

Most importantly, though, the text makes it very plain that she didn't cry out, and as Deuteronomy 22 explains, THAT puts the onus for any sin committed squarely on her. Even if he had covered her mouth to muffle her screams when she was being forcibly penetrated it doesn't excuse her. That is because Deuteronomy doesn't offer "mouth-covering" as a defense. An omniscient Deity like The One True God knows better than to accept that weak tea of an idea. A blameless girl cries out, and if she doesn't cry out, then she's not blameless.

Finally, we get to the meat of this discussion in the following:

2 Samuel 13:15

15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.

Now this is serious stuff. The Word of God tells us that he loved her which is why he staged the whole seduction so carefully, but because of her, his feelings changed to serious hate.

There's an old saying attributed to the Irish. Something about how you never hate anyone more than someone whom you've "done the dirty to".
Therefore, the painful truth is that it's the dirtiness of victims that inspires hatred in others. If this feckless young woman had not inspired her own half-brother to sin, he would have had no cause to hate her.

The moral of the story is so clear, the only thing that confuses me is why the young lady wasn't properly stoned to death. But the story gets real busy right after she's raped and cast aside.

There's a lot of important brother-against-brother stuff and the King is caught up with sorrow about his sons being pitted against each other. It is possible that God decided to leave that part of the story out of the official narrative, because the girl was hardly that important in the first place and any True Believer™ worth his salt can cross reference Deuteronomy 22 and know that sooner or later, someone would find the time to execute the girl, since God's Holy Word plainly commands it.

2 Samuel 13:15 is one of my favorite Bible verses because it offers a clear perspective on the need to follow God's Word to the letter. If the girl had cried out like a virtuous damsel, her half-brother would not have hated her and none of the fraternal friction that follows would have transpired. Her dad would have been spared a lot of heartache as well.

Who knows how much trouble could have been averted if one over-dressed, spoiled princess had truly served the Lord?

Museingly Yours,
Handmaiden
