Higher Ground is the story of an American woman of great spirit, living in a conservative Christian community during the 1960s and '70s. Corinne is played by the talented and delicate-featured Vera Farmiga, whose pellucid eyes charmed George Clooney in Up in the Air (for which she was nominated for an Oscar).

In scenes from childhood and her teens, Corinne edges closer to the church, wanting to be swept up in its promise (McKenzie Turner plays the child, and Farmiga's real sister, Taissa Farmiga, is the teenage Corinne). A short flirtation with rock'n'roll sees her married to the God-fearing and well-meaning Ethan (Joshua Leonard). They are soon raising a large brood. The rural community is led by the charismatic Pastor Bill (Norbert Leo Butz) and Corinne is surrounded by people who care for her

Yes, it sounds like at last Hellywood is trying to restore some balance, does it not? A charming tale of the love of God and a holy woman submissive and meek to her husband. An example to us all.

Her deepest friendship is with Annika (Dagmara Dominczyk), an unconventional and free-spirited woman within the community, who likes drawing pictures of her husband's penis. These people may frown on a woman saying too much within a prayer meeting - preaching is the exclusive province of men - but they do like having sex. There's a funny scene where Pastor Bill gathers the men and tells them not to neglect ''the needs'' of their wives. He plays them audio tapes about how to find the clitoris, while the men stare at the floor.

However the true nature of this film quickly becomes apparent as you further read the review. Can you imagine someone like Pastor Zeke standing and pointing at a woman's ladyparts while instructing in the art of bean flicking? The very idea of such perversion in the Church is a wicked slur. No True Christian™ Pastor would EVER stoop so low as to display porn to a congregation while concerning himself with instructing them how to tempt their wives to play the harlot!

The movie is about Corinne's failure to share the spirit, even though she wants to. Annika can speak in tongues, but when she tries it at home, she just sounds silly. The sexism rankles with Corinne, but Annika remains wildly free within the community. What's wrong with me, Corinne wonders?

The film is all about enticing your wives into backsliding into Satan's clutches. Imagine if you had been tricked into thinking it was a wholesome tale. Imagine if your wife began to crave this sexual pleasure and was tempted into adultery or worse, being a dyke! We must prevent such monstrosity!

Hellywood once again stands forth as trying to undermine Christianity and show up Christians as some sort of figures of fun unable to hold onto their wives or keep them duly submissive and away from obvious dykes.

Can you see something like this happening in Freehold? I can't. Once again we see transparent works of fiction and fantasy masquerading as fact in order to lead our young people into believing falsehood!

The Holy Bible is the only cure for this horror!
