I can see you are trying to hedge your bets. God sees your lack of faith in Him and will Judge you accordingly.
I take it what God tells you is not good enough then? How come you think you know better than Him? Why do you thin God never had the Bible updated to reflect all these 'discoveries'?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

Perhaps there are mysteries yet to uncover, but something explained in The Bible is not a mystery is it.
Whether the sun is 500 miles overhead at noon or only 7 miles [The Bible does not give an exact figure] has no bearing on the distance of the moon. They are both the same distance due to their location in the firmament. Please read God's Inerrant Word before commenting further. If you want to blurt "science" you'd need to read some science textbooks too, but I'm not recommending that.
The world was made perfectly for us. The facts of Creation have been covered many times why have you not read the threads.
In an earlier post I quoted God's Word concerning the sun and the firmament so if you can be bothered to read it you could go on to see other Scripture quoted there by actual Christians who are not afraid to acknowledge Him. Why are you afraid?

I have read the threads, but wanted to have my own converstation rather than look in on someone elses. I will reread the Bible, to be certain of its text, and i have read quite a few science texts as well. However, if it seems as if i hadnt, i would really appreciate it if you could point out any flaws in what ive put forth so i can reevaluate how i word it. And finally, i am not afraid to acknowledge God, and apologize if i mislead you.

I prayed to God and He told me that everyone should follow the Bible word for word.
Which one of us is correct?
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

Friend, that is not Jesus speaking to you, it is your own carnal flesh speaking to you because when Jesus speaks, it is in line with the Bible.
Romans
8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Psalm 50:22 Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
Deuteronomy32:35 To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
Jerimiah 13:14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.
Numbers 32:23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.
Leviticus24:14 Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
Ephesians5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 5:7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

Friend, you ahve studied the wrong thing. You should have studied the Bible for in it you will learn how to effective use the Armor of God© to protect against worldy demonic influence.
Ephesians
6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
6:13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Romans
13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Isaiah
49:2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;
You cannot crucify the flesh and put on the Lord Jesus, who is the Word of God and is God, by ignoring the Word.
Romans
13:14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.
Galatians
5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Friend, thte Lord Jesus would not tell you to ignore His Word because he is the Word.
John
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
It's no wonder you sound so confused and have to pretend to have had a private revelation from God. Odd that God contradicts Himself...
How do you manage to believe simultaneously in so many self-contradictory things? How can God have made Adam only days after making everything else in orders that make no sense if you view them scientifically (where did the light come from with no sun, moon and stars?) and also have Adam evolving after billions of years from monkeys?
The obvious conclusion is that as a Christian you have to utterly reject science and focus on the Bible. Anything else is silly. Why you'd have to cherry pick the bits you like from both and fudge all the bits where they don't match up and live your life sounding like some.sort of muddled buffoon.
Whoops!

Here is the proof:
To start off with, the sun is hot enough to glow yellow, so we can use Wein's Displacement Law to determine the temperature.
Wein's Displacement Law:
Peak Wavelength in meters = displacement constant / temperature in Kelvin
Yellow light has a wavelength between 570nm and 580nm, so we'll solve for 575nm. Since we are working with nanometers rather than meters, we'll simplify the math by multiplying the displacement constant by 10^9.
575 = 2897768.5/T
575 * T = 2897768.5
T = 2897768.5/575
T = 5039.6° K (8611.6° F)
So the sun is about 5039.6° Kelvin.
Now, the average temperature of the earth is 59° F, or about 288° K. The mean temperature gradient of the troposphere is 6° K/km, so let's solve for the distance.
d = (5039.6 - 288)/6
d = 791.9 km (491.1 miles)
There you have it. The sun is roughly 491.1 miles overhead. Depending on the exact shade of yellow (whether it's closer to 570nm or 580nm), this figure could be off by as much as 5 miles. However, I don't have a spectrometer handy, and I'm willing to live with an uncertainty of ±5 miles. It's not like I'm planning to visit anytime soon -- my shoes would melt .
The LORD is so good to me. Praise the sweet name of Jesus.
Pastor Billy-Reuben

Unfortunately, the temperature is not 5039.6° K 500 km up. You didn't justify the assumption that the gradient is positive. And, in fact, it isn't.

If you want to debate people, THIS is the place to go.
Please make a thread of your own in the " Introductions" section of the forum, so that we can properly greet you. Tell us about yourself, your church, and how you came to find Jesus.
And if you're here to flame us, better take a look at THIS before making an even bigger ass out of yourself.
I will pray that the Holy Spirit enter you and chase the demons out of your rectum and let Jesus fill you with His Grace. If you use your God-given free will to reject Christ and His temporary death on the cross for my sins, then you are sending yourself to hellfire.

Your math is perfect, you correctly calculated the temperature of the surface of the Sun. But the atmosphere slowly decreases with altitude and terminates at about 67 miles above the surface. This means heat through conduction or convention is impossible. Heat through radiation is how the Sun transfers energy to Earth. Heat that travels through light is affected by the inverse square law and depends not on the Sun's temperature but its overall energy output.

Been there with a thermometer? Or did someone tell you this and you just believed it? How do you know they didn't just make it up to control you and make you dependent on them?
You seem to have a lot of faith in this thing that isn't the perfect word of God. Why do you want to stick things in your bottom?

What I can't understand is why the sun would need to be "millions of miles away." I mean, what's the point? Who would put a sun that far away? It's like having a fire in your pool room and then sitting in the garden!
If it's nearer, it can be smaller - remember Occam's razor! The simplest explanation is the perfect one!

The 'point' is that life can survive on our planet. The sun is a huge nuclear fusion reactor, not a relatively harmless lump of coal conveniently sitting in the sky. If it were close to us, the least devastating effect would be the total eradication of life on earth (which will happen millions of years in the future due to the sun's life cycle causing it to expand and engulf the closest planets).

Life survives on this planet because God decided it would be so. Try reading Genesis.
