Default Day 272. Micah 4-7 - 02-09-2011, 06:00 PM

Micah 4-7

Micah 4

1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

The book of Micah is loved by Rapture and second coming people (people like me).

The first part of chapter 4 deals with the coming kingdom of God.

3 And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

When God comes (back) he's going to be a God for everyone, not just the Hebrews.

4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.

Remember how yesterday, Micah was against corporate farmers; he still is. you'll note that every man will sit under HIS vine and under HIS fig tree. That implies that every man will have a vine and a fig tree. If you live in a big city in an apartment building, you don't have your own vine, you don't have your own tree. Micah is prophesying a return to an agrarian society, where everyone has their own equal sized family plot.

6 In that day, saith the LORD, will I assemble her that halteth, and I will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have afflicted;

7 And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.

Like all good prophets, Micah not only says that good things are going to happen to the people who are now (or soon will be) troubled; but that their enemies are also going to be destroyed.

Micah 5

2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Bethlehem, didn't someone come from there? Someone that was of old and everlasting? Someone that is king?

4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

Yep, he's great.

5 And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

6 And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

One of the reasons the Jews rejected Jesus as the messiah, was because of Micah's prophecy. Based on Micah, we are expecting a strong military leader. Someone who will destroy the enemies. Not someone who allowed himself to be killed on a cross.

It's funny that in verse 5 he "shall be the peace". Then in verse 6 he "shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword". Laying waste with a sword doesn't really sound very peaceful. Except that it is. There are two ways to have an everlasting peace. The first is the hardest, and that's to accept your enemies flaws, faults, and desires... appeasement. Of course, both sides have to come to this compromise...

My friend always used to complain about his wife. He would say "man, with her, I can never win". That view on marriage is what caused part of his problems.

The other method of peace is to completely destroy your enemy. There is no compromise, it's total annihilation of the people who disagree with you.

My friend was looking for this type of peace with his wife. There were things he wanted to do, and there were things she wanted to do. They both were in a contest to see who could MAKE the other do what they wanted to do. In a marriage, you don't win against your spouse. You win against everyone else. If you are looking to "win" in your marriage against your spouse, you may win that battle against your spouse, but your marriage is lost.

9 Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.

Israel will have peace, not because they discovered common ground with their enemies, not because they both like the same things, not for the future safety of their (and their enemies) children... but because they killed all their enemies.

15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.

God will destroy the heathen.

PRAISE JESUS!!!

Micah 6

2 Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.

Micah must have been a lawyer. He here presents the LORD's case against the people. Remember, Micah has already denounced the radical judges who sided with the corporate farmers. So, Micah was probably a lawyer who defended small family farmers against the people who were trying to purchase their land illegally.

3 O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.

God begs the people to tell him when it was that he broke the contract.

11 Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?

12 For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

Micah also denounces the sales people who used false measures. So, he was probably once a States Attorney who filed lawsuits against crooked business people, and tried to protect the "consumer".

Micah 7

1 Woe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grapegleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat: my soul desired the firstripe fruit.

Oh, summer fruits again. Kayts is kets.

2 The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

Micah is continuing his diatribe against people. Except now he's complaining about everyone.

6 For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

Is he talking about the end times, when bad things happen, before the return (or initial arrival) of the messiah?

7 Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

He might be...

Micah then complains some more about how the people suck.

19 He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

20 Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.

Then God will show mercy and return everything back to the way it was.

He's a progressive Republican. Like Palin. How should we best move forward? By returning to the politics and policies of the 1980's. Except that Micah wants to return to the lifestyle of 1000 BC. So, Micah is more like the Taliban.

So what have we learned?

1. When the LORD returns, we are all going to be farmers again.

2. Micah was probably a lawyer who defended consumers against predatory selling practices of shady businessmen, and also defended family farmers.

3. Peace will come to Israel, not when the enemies stop fighting, but when they are destroyed.
