Recently a false Christian claiming to see a contradiction in the following to verses from The Bible.
Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
The claimed contradiction: God says in Exodus He will kill your childern for your sins and then turns arround in Ezekiel and says, no, He does not do that.
Frankly I am bewildered as to how this poor person got this idea in their head. The Holy Spirit makes it so clear to me but he is so sadly blind. As it is widely said "scripture interprets scripture". So lets look at when God kills children:
- Exodus 12:29 The Egyptian first born for refusing to free the Jews.
- 2 Samuel 24 & 1 Chronicles 21 Wide number of Jewish children, along with their families, for King David's wicked census.
- 2 Samuel 12:16 David and Bathsheba child for their adultery.
- Job 1:18 Job's children because Lot was too faithful.*
You see the common thread; none of these children were forced to bear the guilt of their fathers. They were all killed by God to punish the fathers for the father's sins. The children were nothing more than a convent means to punish a sinner and when God judges the child He says out right their fathers sins will have no bearing in why they are sent to hell to burn forever (please note none of them were TRUE Christians).
