The subject of the lyrics have very little or nothing to do with being a good musician, and the reason most death bands pick this subject is because the style developed from trash, wich in turn developed from hardcore and punk.
So, when the individualism and anarchy from the punk scene mixed with the epica stories and religious subjects of heavy metal, it seemed kind of obvious that they would be about the biggest individual will Vs authority conflict ever described, ergo the one between God and Satan.
Furthermore very few of thos involved in the scene believe in either of them, so their mentioning in the lyrics are symbols for the individual and the authority or norm.
Thanks for your time
