He saw the problems with Europe and felt that God would create a land for the righteous among the unwashed - that land was to become the USA.

Jacques de Vitry was a French canon regular who was a noted theologian and chronicler of his era. He was elected bishop of Acre in 1214 and made cardinal in 1229. His descriptions reflected both the geography of the region and the mindset of the European Crusaders.

Greetings Americans.

As the title says, this year marks the 800th anniversary of St. Francis' death. If you don't know what the friar (who is the Patron Saint of Italy) looks like, here is a picture:
<img itemprop="image" data-attachmentid="2080327" data-align="none" data-size="medium" border="0" src="filedata/fetch?id=2080327&d=1791228433&type=medium" alt="Click image for larger version
As a proof that he existed during the best period in History (the Middle Ages) we have his relics, that are very well preserved.

<img itemprop="image" data-attachmentid="2080328" data-align="none" data-size="medium" border="0" src="filedata/fetch?id=2080328&d=1791228582&type=medium" alt="Click image for larger version
As for what we can learn from him, there is a lot of his teachings that are useful for today. Such as rejecting the idolatry of money and treathing animals with more respect as they are creatures from God.

<img itemprop="image" data-attachmentid="2080329" data-align="none" data-size="medium" border="0" src="filedata/fetch?id=2080329&d=1791228717&type=medium" alt="Click image for larger version
And last but not least, evangelizing Muslims the way he did. So, do you have any suggestion about what teaching from Saint Francis we should all follow?
