You celebrate what you deem to be the suffering of your fellow man, taking pleasure from the idea that someone is beneath you and that they will be punished for what they have done. No man is without fault, and your community is by far the most faulted grouping of humans I have ever seen.
Let's say I come into your house one night, rape your daughters, will you then give me money to marry them? If you answer yes then I no longer want to fight against forced sterilization, instead I want to volunteer this disturbed church.
If you were educated past your small-town bible-thumping high school you'd understand more of what the outsiders were talking about. In fact, if your history teacher had gone to college and wanted to shed any light on the ideas of humanity you'd be a lot more tolerable.
What you crave is genocide, you want people who aren't exactly like you to die so that you can feel the joy of believing they are being punished for their sins. You would cheer on Hitler if you were alive back then. Your ways of thinking are barbaric, and if it wasn't for the fact that you live in America were everyone has a right to believe in something you'd all be treated like garbage and forced to believe whatever your ruler happened to want to believe in, and any extreme view outside would lead to beheading. However, in this country there is an allowance for small communities to do just that as long as they only threaten harm on those unlike themselves.
Before you call me an ignorant heathen, I've read the bible, I've studied it in comparison to other religions, I've written several papers over religions three of which were over the bible. One of those being a paper comparing the time period in which the bible was written with the verses as to account for why certain barbaric things were written in the bible. You want to know why? Specifically toward this verse in question?
If a man were to rape a woman if he did not marry her she was required to kill herself. This verse forced a stop to the suicides committed by rape victims, the fee the father paid was not for the damaged goods the person would be taken. But for the fact that even though this man raped his daughter she is able to live longer because he had married her.
The bible was not written by God, in fact there are very few parts that claim to be the words of God. It was written by people who saw this religion as a way to create an unchangable necessary law.
