And now, in 2009, we have an uppity negro elected by militant homosexuals attempting to trample over State's Rights. Buchanan and Lincoln's tyrannical trampling over God-given property rights looks positively tame compared to Obama's determination to kill all the old people. Can we really afford another civil war, in this chilling modern world of nuclear warfare and Muslims and other such terrifying ideas? Hopefully Jesus will sort all this mess out, and quickly.

Buchanan was astonishingly supportive of "slaveowners' rights" -- he wanted to have his cake and eat it too, condemning succession AND condemning Northern Attack; the ambivalence is what alienated him from Congress. What a mess that all was -- a simple, spoiled-children, King of the Mountain shoving contest that was far, far more about money than it was rights, slavery, or even national pride.

But, I agree with your implied analogy, Mr. Prez; homosexuality was related to the Civil War to EXACTLY the degree that Stalinist crimes were related to Atheism.

And Lincoln certainly didn't think the war was about freeing the slaves:

President Buchanan's homosexuality is widly accepted by historians along with the opinion that Buchanan would have been able to the prevent the Civil War is he wasn't so indecisive.
