Yes, weather events can lead to God as well as smite unbelievers. This has also been observed. Strong winds are often associated with a tornado coming down from Heaven which is one form of smiting seen where people turn away from God such as by allowing their families to form beliefs for themselves. How often do they decide that rather than attend Church they'd prefer to eat toadstools or drink cactus juice and have an orgy? From there it's a short step indeed to the booking office for a cruise with like minded miscreants, never mind that productive land back home is likely to have its topsoil stripped off by a tornado. "Food?" they probably think, "We've moved beyond food! Out here in the Caribbean we're high enough on sin not to need it!" so the band strikes up a lively tune and the dancing gets real crazy..
So much for Ali Baba and the Caribbean degenerates. Whether or not Elijah was familiar with camels and regardless of his diet we can be pretty sure he did not go in for crazy dancing. Orgies of that type are not endorsed by God but nevertheless He did send a tornado. Not to destroy but to take Elijah up into Heaven.
II Kings 2:11-12 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
This whirlwind is a tornado, reaching down for God's prophet to take him up to be with Him in Heaven. If it were any less, Elijah would have fallen back down like a chicken caught up momentarily and been unavailable to appear with Jesus during The Transfiguration. And knowing that major weather events are connected directly with Heaven, such as the eye of a hurricane or the funnel of a tornado, we can be certain of two things.
1. That Heaven really is up there as described by observations recorded in The Bible
2. That when major weather events touch down as destructive forces they truly are sent by God
