Has anyone heard of the idea that time is cyclical with no end and no beginning....?

There is no "big bang" as such - rather a perpetual expansion of the universe to a critical point where it then contracts. The universe then reaches a critical point where it begins to expand again - in other words it gets so small that it explodes, which could be called the "big bang", in a manner of thinking.

    What are your thoughts?
It's impossible as it violates the laws of thermodynamics. The universe according to most views is open and wiill eventually reach a state of total entropy approaching absolute zero in what is often termed heat death as all movement stops.

Concurrently, we can tell the universe is expanding and that there's no real force to constrain it back. Gravity isn't really sufficent, so likely, in 10^100 years or more, the heat death prediction will come to pass.

Cyclical Time is illogical because there would have to be something outside of it to create it. Now, you can consider cyclical time as being a circle drawn on a piece of paper right? That circle drawing is time. But, something has to draw the circle first in order to repeat it.

Not only is it dismissed by simple logic, but I think the Hindoos and Mayans believed in it too which only furthers the incredulity of the theory.

    er..................no.

each expansion and contraction cycle lasts millions of years.

Pal, there is no such thing as "millions of years." The Bible tells us that the Earth is 6,100 years old.

Don't come in here trying to get us to worship monkeys. This is a Christian forum.

So it's perpetual? Which happened first - the expanding or the contracting?

Wow, hounslow, what an earth-shattering idea. I cam up with that one on my own when I was 14. The cosmos expanding and contracting endlessly like a beating heart. And every expansion exactly like the previous. All of this has happened before and all of it will happen again, as batllestar galactica put it. Old, moldy theory. Hey, I spooked some fellow 14 year olds with it though - told them deja vu was the proof that they'd lived these moments before, an uncountable number of times. You're not 14 are you?

    Boo!

There is only one thing without beginning or end and that, my friend, is God. God caused the universe's beginning and will cause it's end. Only one go through, friend, no do-overs. Better make sure you get right with God ASAP.

You're saying it expands until it runs out of energy, then falls on itself when it runs out. That theory says that the expansion of the universe is just the increasing of space. However, what is the universe expanding into? Ah, so you are suggesting there is something outside of space. I guess that would be god.

Cyclical time? Does the man mean "time of the month"?

If............ (and it is a really big if, with no Biblical references to back up the absurdity of the claim) it is cyclical as you claim, then why does God do that? I know it only takes Him seven days to create the heavens and the Earth but why go though the trouble.
So if you think about it, a expanding and contracting universe is pointless. God is no dummy.

Honestly, some questions are so ridiculous!

The way I read the Bible (KJV1611) Jesus is coming back at some point to wrap this whole thing up. So I don't see any point in "recycling" His creation. As a practical matter, these so-called "scientists" haven't figured out if there is enough "mass" in the universe to eventually make it "collapse" anyway. We really don't need to be concerned with what Jesus ultimately does to dispose of the universe once we are with Him in Heaven. For all I care He could outsource it to the mooselimbs who are hell bent on blowing it all up anyway.
