Re: Atheists don't believe George Washington existed!
I believe in George Washington for several reasons. But you are right, I have no way of absolutely knowing. The difference between God and George Washigton is tht Washington was a NORMAL PERSON. He did not do anything supernatural. Of you guys told me that Jesus was just a really nice guy and helped people, but didn't have special powers, I would believe you, but God and Jesus, according to you, did impossible acts. I refuse to believe in such myths without proof.

The evidence for Jesus and George Washington are not on par.Originally posted by Prayer Warrior View PostI'm constantly finding all these so called "logical" atheists demanding evidence of Jesus that they can test, witness, hear, or measure in a laboratory and that can be found outside of eye witness testimony and historical records such as the Bible. They only accept the types of evidence that are convenient to them, and ignore the type of evidence they don't like.
If these atheists applied their same so called "logic" on George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, or any other historical figure then by their own definition they would not be able to prove their existence! I suppose that means atheists must not believe in George Washington either!
Surely atheists wouldn't be using logic science and evidence in every area of their life except when it comes to Jesus, and in only that specific instance they ignore all of the evidence and historical records.
Jesus was unmentioned by any of his contemporaries until decades later. George Washington was mentioned by a huge number of independent contemporary sources. You think there is no contemporary evidence of Washington or Lincoln? I guess mummy skipped over the history section of the home schooling syllabus in favor of "funtime with Jesus".
We have many contemporary accounts of George Washington by both supporters and detractors which are consistent regarding the facts of his life.George Washington was written about in more than one book, by his contemporaries. The difference of course is that there are multiple accounts of contemporaries who actually met George Washington in his lifetime. Besides that, of course, no one is claiming George Washington is a god. We are pretty sure some of the stories about George Washington are myths, but none of them assert he did anything supernatural.
There are no known contemporary accounts for Jesus. All of the early non-christian references are disputed by scholars as later Christian insertions or forgeries. The gospels are inconsistent with one another and show clear literary signs of fiction. Paul's letters make no mention of Jesus as a human who had recently lived. There is not even one contemporary account of Jesus. We know that some of the accounts composed long after Jesus was supposed to have lived are lies. For example, there was no world-wide Roman tax by decree of Augustus Ceasar any time near the time Jesus is supposed to have been born. How many brother is Jesus supposed to have had? See, not contemporary account, and the accounts written much later are full of contradictions and proved lies.
If I told you that I can turn base metals into gold, you would likely ask me to prove it. I am a living human who you could visit and interrogate. You could challenge me and test the results of my claims...yet you would accept the testimony of the long dead ignorant writers of scripture without question? How does that make any sense or show any consistency on your part?

That makes sense. All Atheists are so busy having anal sex that they have no clue whatsoever what America is really all about. That is why they voted for Obama.Originally posted by Prayer Warrior View PostI suppose that means atheists must not believe in George Washington either!

Friend, I think you're on to something - atheists don't know what to think about Jesus. I don't think it's because of what false Christians do or don't do, but because they have refused to apply their God-given ability to trust and have faith without evidence!Originally posted by SonOfThunder View PostThey don't know what to think about Jesus, because all they can base christianity off of is people who acknowledge jesus with their lips, then betray Him by their lifestyle. Thats is what an unbelieving world simply finds, unbelievable.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1

Atheists! Take that leap of faith! I will pray for you!

You're 100% right on that one! I've been confronted many times because of my beliefs, and the atheist/agnostic people I was around always tried to get me to contradict myself. I've just come to the conclusion that when people act in that manner, they are struggling for answers they don't even know the question to. That sounds weird, but in a way, its true. They don't know what to think about Jesus, because all they can base christianity off of is people who acknowledge jesus with their lips, then betray Him by their lifestyle. Thats is what an unbelieving world simply finds, unbelievable.
