Hello, Christians. I've decided to visit once again to spread some of the Wisdom of the Godhead in this mundane, spiritually void place you call a forum.
The Goddess Eostre brings rebirth to all life on Earth. I hope I'll spot her this year!
The Earth Egg
Eostre is approaching! Next Monday, on the 21st of March, we will celebrate the birth of new life everywhere on the northern hemisphere. At that moment, night and day are in perfect balance, because the Earth Egg stands on its end, and is going to tip over towards the Light Phase of the Wheel of the Year. (we call the Earth the Egg of the Goddess).
It is partly because of this that so many people worldwide still celebrate the first day of Spring by hiding and seeking eggs. Eggs are a pagan symbol of the rebirth of the Earth every year, and belong to the attributes of the Spring Goddess Eostre, together with the rabbit. Eostre is also known as Ostara in Scandinavia, Astarte in Greece, Asherah in ancient Canaan (the female companion of El and later Yahweh, before she was rejected by a misogynic priesthood) and Ishtar in ancient Babylon. In this season was Ishtar's son Tammuz reborn, signifying the rebirth of life during Spring, an idea that was later reworked by Christians in their Jesus resurrection myth.
The magickal egg ritual
There is one very enlightening thing you can do at your kitchen table on the 21st of March to witness the spiritual rebirth of the earth: take an egg, and put it on its end, before the moment of Eostre. At the exact moment the Vernal Equinox occurs, you will see that it tips over (actually I haven't done this myself; but my fellow wiccan, Sister Dragonsong, tells us here that it works that way).
How to celebrate Eostre
Like with all wiccan sabbaths, there are many kinds of food, herbs and gemstones associated with Eostre.
We should eat leafy green vegetables, Dairy foods, Nuts such as Pumpkin, Sunflower and Pine, Flower Dishes and Sprouts. In consuming these products of the earth, we become spiritually aligned with nature once again, which is the point of Eostre. I always feel the Peace of Eostre fill my soul especially when eating sunflower nuts and rhubarb, so I can recommend those!
Herbs and flowers we traditionally associate with Eostre are Daffodil, Jonquils, Woodruff, Violet, Gorse, Olive, Peony, Iris, Narcissus and all spring flowers. Actually, the garland of flowers I wear in my hair in my avatar picture is also an Eostre Garland, made from herbs and flowers from my own magickal garden, which protects me against negative energies, like anger and jealousy, which otherwise would disturb the balance between my Yin and Yang.
Of course, there is also a Sacred Gemstone associated with Eostre: Rose Quartz, or Roselle. I wear a necklace of these during spring ceremonies because of the mystic qualities it transfers:
Roselle initiates a deep purification of the emotional body, thereby helping release the emotional limitations that hinder personal growth and happiness. Roselle’s energy enters the wave-like flows in the emotional body. There, it dislodges suppressed and unacknowledged feelings, gently transforming them into flowing energy that can be released through healthy emotional expression. This purification removes the emotional causes of physical illness and helps you grow more in touch with your true emotional nature.
I can recommend this as well to everyone reading this! The healing capacities of gemstone therapy are greater than that of either prayer or medical science.
I would like to finish with the words of Sister Dragonsong again:
CELEBRATE!
Out of the darkness of despair, out of the bleak dim days, LIFE returns! In colour, bright freshness, sweet fragrance... carrying joy in its wings!
LIFE! The Goddess RETURNS!!
AWAKE!! CELEBRATE LIFE in all its beauty! . . .
And coming up into Spring again, we know even more: LIFE IS!
C E L E B R A T E ! !
Let the Light in to brighten all your dusty corners. Sweep out the residues of pain, regret, and doubt, wherever they may hide. Come BACK, to LIFE.
You are being called!
Every ray of sunlight knows your name. Every flower calls you. Every chirp and swoop of wing is an invitation. You are invited! To the gala which is LIFE on this beauteous, gracious, luscious green-blue planet-Goddess we call Gaia the Mother Earth.
Wake up!! Celebrate Her return!
Celebrate the exuberant dance of Life!
And hear Gaia cry to you:
Welcome . . . Beloved!
May Gaia's Life-Giving Smile be over the lives of all of you!

AWAKE!! CELEBRATE LIFE in all its beauty! . . .
The opening heart as it gazes into a baby's smile. The joyful frolicking of lambs and calves and infants of all kinds.
The lift of birdsong to the soul!
The tender thrill of beauty in bright blossoms!
The sap rising in the trees like love!
The opening up of the Earth, and the spaces within us!!
Coming from the depths of winter's darkness, we know: Death Happens. The lift of birdsong to the soul!
The tender thrill of beauty in bright blossoms!
The sap rising in the trees like love!
The opening up of the Earth, and the spaces within us!!
And coming up into Spring again, we know even more: LIFE IS!
