Re: Hey Atheists: Why Isn't It The Year 4.5 Billion?
Well, most calendars are not entirely just human constructs. The Mayan 260 day calendar was indeed a totally human construct because it had no astronomical basis that I know of (please correct me if I'm wrong; maybe it was some synodic cycle?). However, the "other" Mayan calendar, as well as Julian and Gregorian calendars, are solar years, thus astronomically based (albeit some are more exact than others). So it's not as arbitrary as you think.

I mean it could be? Why not? It's just a human construct that allows us to keep track of dates.

Gregorian calendar was introduced 435 years ago. According to your own logic, why isn't it the year 435, then?Originally posted by a.lien View PostYou are literally retarded. Why isn't it 4.5 billion? Because the Gregorian calendar didn't start when the Earth formed.

Grade school stuff indeed Sister Mary. Our poster needs a lesson in history.Originally posted by Mary Etheldreda View PostThat's because God didn't care about the Chinaman enough to let him know about the Redeemer of Mankind when they developed their calendar, and the Soviets rejected Him.
This is grade school stuff.
The reason communism failed in both those countries is that they did not know what time it was nor have a real calender. And how could they when they had rejected God--He was not about to tell them.

And in the good old days in the Soviet Union, another calendar was used too.
In both, Jesus is not mentioned at all.
Besides this refutation, the fact that a calendar is developed with Jesus born reference, it doesn't means that all what is told about him is truth.

Nonsense.Originally posted by wtfisthissite View PostIt is not the year 4.5 billion due to the creation of man and the thought of time management, 4.5 billion years ago, man did not exist, but through evolution, we became smarter, more able to keep track of time and to measure time, hence why our calendars only date back 2016 years ago.
Time was recorded longer ago than 2016 but at the time it was recorded as BC as in Before Christ.
As in the Exodus took place around 500 BC!

Yes, but the stories that are claimed by the Bible to be true such as Noah's Ark and Adam and Eve never happened, since there is no evidence and people wrote about it thousands of years later. Not too ironic.Originally posted by euphoric_neckbeard View PostWhy does it matter if Jesus existed or not? Been dead for almost 2000 years. The Bible is just a bunch of stories that have no evidence to back up. Especially Noah's Ark, Creationism, Jesus's resurrection, etc. There are no outside sources that describe Jesus's resurrection or miracles.

Does people switching the calendar into a different direction when Jesus existed somehow prove your god?
Why do I have to say it's the year 4.5 billion just because I'm an atheist? I'll pick whichever way to tell the dates that I want. It's true that the earth is around 4.5 billion years old, but it makes things a lot easier for me to stick with the simple "it's 2016".
I must say, you're worse than the mooselimbs, but at least they acknowledge the existence of Jesus - just that he wasn't the Son of God. Maybe you don't believe in God - but what about allah? Do you know how to drive trucks?
Or maybe you're some kind of troll sent here by one of George Soros' funded organizations (like MoveOn.org) to disrupt the election of Donald Trump.
