however it is an off branch from paganism, and please befor you start to shout demons etc. paganism is not all bad
it embraces nature, yes there are some bad aspects in the past but hey all religons have that.
but as I was saying paganism is older than christianity as christianity absorbed some items from paganism, and changed them. this was due to the roman empire who wanted a state religon for all of there subjugated peoples to relate to.Comment

You need to remember two things. First, the devil knew that Christ would come to die temporarily for our sins, so he pre-stole aspects of Christianity and revealed them to the pagans so that they could create religions confusingly similar to Christianity and thereby lure more people into hell. Roman? Greek? Egyptian? African? Druidic? Native American? Hindu?
All "religions" which existed before Christ came (except Judaism, of course) are called "paganism". It's a blanket term for non-monotheistic cults.

Wicca, along with all modern "pagan" cults, are partial reconstructions based upon picking and choosing the bits of historical records people like, and making up rituals around them.
There is no continuous line. Gardner made that up, just as he stole most of his source material from Aleister Crowley, who got the bulk of his rituals from the Freemasons . . . who made it up.
Care to learn something? Read this online book about Freemasonry. It was written in 1920. It explains the first, second, and third degree rituals, their origins, and the meanings they share with the people they're initiating.
The meanings are lies, because they're actually initiating them into either atheism or Satanism, depending upon the lodge. You'll see when you read the rituals how it can go either way.
