I am so sorry Lisa, my typing skills let me down. What I meant to say was....

In way of an apology please accept this gift.

I thought I did answer it quite well. I suppose International law gives me the right, since it certainly does not prevent me or consider such a comment illegal.

Do you think you could put that in plain English? The misspelling of "religions" may be a typo, but authoritive [sic] looks suspiciously like ignorance or stupidity.

Thank you for your support, Mr Freddie. I was tempted to use the term "strumpet" but I doubted that she would understand it. "Scruffy tart" was another possibility, but the list is probably endless.

At least she does not deny that she is illiterate, which shows some insight.

And if you are going to be all prescriptivist -- which I don't claim to be -- what about a comma after "post"? Isn't it usual to put matter in double quotes inside commas (if you are a prescriptivist ninny, I mean).

If there was no comma after "clause", then there could be no complaint, but it looks very much like you have committed the cardinal sin of failing to close parenthetical commas.

    For example:
Furthermore, the clause, "no apostrophe in your post", should be separated with a comma [as well].

And isn't the combination of "furthermore" (uggggghhh, what a stupid word) with "as well" tautologous? (I have deliberately left out commas around "furthermore", and "as well").

Your comment about a dramatic point is on the right track. Your revision of my sentence makes it far too pompous, polite, and formal. Notice how I use the commas in my last sentence but not when I appositely call the wanton illiterate harlot a wanton illiterate harlot. Savvy?

The purpose of grammar and punctuation is to increase understanding and avoid ambiguity. Punctuation is often used to convey the tone of a message. The same sentence can be punctuated many different ways to give different nuances of feeling and tone.

You only got one right. The capital was a mistake. That is all I'd alter.

Sentence fragments, as they're known, are commonplace -- the best and most respectable writers use them.

The commas you mention are not obligatory at all. They are not wrong -- punctuation is not subject to rules in the way you think. But nor is it wrong to omit them.

    Please fill in the blank:

    A little _______________ is a dangerous thing.

And no, the answer is not "knowledge".

Do you really think that I don't know of the "rules" you've cited? Do you really think I don't know of them? But they are not "rules" that are obligatory at all.

You remind me of a sarcastic comment by Curme about those who'd rather take notice of their schoolteachers than the experts.

"Uggg -- no apostrophe in your post you wanton illiterate harlot", is the way I prefer it. It could be punctuated in various ways, but the punctuation I used gives the flow and feeling that I wanted to convey.

I bet you think that Strunk and White is a good book on grammar...
