Re: An open letter to goths, emos, and similar trash
No Ixi --- God is not a person like you or me --- God is spirit, he is divine --- no one has ever seen God, he is unknowable and unreachable; it is only by his divine love and mercy that he has communicated with human beings over the centuries; and that is how we were given the scriptures we know today as the Holy Bible.

To answer you --- yes pagans who sacrifice children would probably go to hell, and yes God could burn children if he wants to, God can do anything he wants, whenever he wants.Originally posted by Brother Temperance View Post
So what part of Icky's statement seems like a senseless confusion of contradictions to you? Do you think that pagans who sacrifice children won't go to Hell, or that God cannot burn children if He wants to?
God's thoughts are not human thoughts, his reasons are not human reasons, his laws are not our laws, they are divine; and except by his grace and mercy we would be nothing, and have nothing.
But in the Bible itself, there is a lot to absorb: there are long accounts of history, geneology, there are detailed descriptions of the everyday lives of the early tribes and communities --- in a time when both scholars and ordinary men were trying to make sense of themselves and creation and God; the scriptures are complicated, and in many places this bit would appear to contradict that bit --- I say, would appear --- because after all, we were not living in those times, and we are not God.

So now you want to claim that God, who created the entire universe in 6 days, is no more powerful than you, a zit-faced teenaged harlot who can't even spell and writes lousy goth poetry?Originally posted by Ixi View PostYou know, if God has the ability to make desicions like any other person, that means he IS like a person, and we should fight against it if we want to! In all my years of pastoring, I don't know that I've ever encountered someone so completely lost.

That could be one way of looking at it. But of course, as we are all loving christains, lets all be friends.

Some parts of the scripture talk about what men thought was right to do at the time, and other parts tell of what God wants instead; and in many places these are mixed together --- and this is why interpretation is needed
It's true that we mere humans cannot know the mind of God, but his Word was meant for guidance so that we could get to know him better, not so that we are left in a senseless confusion of contradictions
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord

So God is allowed to sacrifice all the innocent children he wants but we burn in "Hell" if we sacrifice one...hmmm...that makes perfect sense.

That depends on who did the crime, and just how bad the crime was.

Well, I suppose that makes sense. I mean, Ted Haggard has a wife, which rules out him being gay, so I suppose you fall into the same category.Originally posted by Omerta View PostFirstly, I have a Gf. Which rules out me being gay.
So if someone you knew committed a crime, you'd inform on them? What's wrong with Omerta? I thought it sounded cool. No, I'm acutally someone who follows the law - rather well.

Secondly, I'm not aggressive. I'm not a pushover either. If I was aggressive, then things would be worse.

The Cosa Nostra may be a bunch of hellbound Papists, but at least they're scary. What would an Anglican gang be like? Would they demand money with teacakes?Originally posted by minister noddy View PostHow about some organized Anglicans while we're at it?
