  • My Heavy Heart

I live outside the Freehold Precinct, and therefore attend a local church. Over the years I have been a proud member of the Mercy Seat Church here in Milwaukee. I have written about it several times on this site, and invited those nearby to hear the powerful testimony of its pastors.

However, the senior pastor, one Matthew Trewhella, has gone rogue. I can no longer endorse nor recommend this church.

    His article
Men and the High Goal of Pleasing their Wives

left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Marriage is for creating soldiers and daughters for Christ. It's not about pleasure. I agree with my pastors first paragraph in the article.

"When I was a young minister doing pre-marital counseling with couples, I did not speak about sexual matters except to remind them of marital fidelity – that adultery is sin and is punishable under God’s law with the death penalty".

but I agree with little else as the article unfolds. Read it at your peril.

Men and the High Goal of Pleasing their Wives – Mercy Seat Christian Church

I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for Matt to realize how wrong he is. I'll be making the 760 mile round trip to Freehold each Sunday to hear Zeke at the pulpit. There will be no such nonsense from him.

    Phil
58 If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD; 59 Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. 60 Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. 61 Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bringk upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

Brother Ander, when I read the article I thought it must be a women's gossip magazine like Cosmo or Playboy, or some silliness. To think this came from the words of a Pastor(?!) makes me vomit.

    • Men are easy to please – women not as much.

Really? Well, obviously the person who wrote this does not congress with the same gentlemen that I do. They have very exacting standards. Very. If you know what I mean. Not all women can manage it.

    • Hand-holding, attentive eye-contact, and saying nice things well before the time of intimacy goes a long way for a woman.

Got it. Hold hand, stare, talk about the sports, BAM!, get intimate.

    • I tell men ... to lock the bedroom door with the commitment not to come out until he has successfully pleased her. No matter how many hours it takes.

Got it. Lock door, hold hand, stare, talk about the sports, BAM!, get busy pleasin'. Do not let her out for hours.
If I have seen further, it is by standing on the heads of others.

Where in the Bible does it say that a man should please his wife? What makes a woman happy and fulfilled is knowing that she has made a good home for her husband and children and obeying her husband in all things as the Bible commands:

Wives, obey your husbands as you obey the Lord. The husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the church people. The church is his body and he saved it. Wives should obey their husbands in everything, just as the church people obey Christ. Ephesians 5:22-24
