Wrong. The mind didn't stop the bullet, the gear did.

Show me an instance where someone stopped a flying bullet ONLY using his mind . . . Oh, wait. You can't.

Incidentally, WHOSE mind is the most powerful force on Earth? The red-headed retard in your kid's class? Paris Hilton's?
And "praying" only helps because you THINK it will, not because some god hears it and answers it. The THOUGHT is what counts.

If I believe this great medicine the doctor is giving me will heal me completely, then chances are, even if it is a sugar pill (read: placebo), it will do what I THINK it will.
Could you back that up with a "scientific" study showing that placebos can actually cure real diseases (cancer, the AIDS, etc.), instead of just relieving non-diseases like tension headaches (caused by stress anyway)?

    Yeah, I thought not.

    some points...

    1)
You show me a bullet proof vest , whatever make or material , and there is a round that will punch A CHUNK OF IT INTO YOUR CHEST CAVITY, and out the back along with your lungs. If you don't believe that google any of the following. They will take out armoured vehicles. Accuracy International AS50, Accuracy International AW-50 , DSR-Precision DSR 50 , Steyr .50 HS ,PGM Ultima Ratio 'Hecate II' , Mechem NTW-20 , AMSD OM 50 Nemesis , Barrett M series/light50 , M-93 Black Arrow / Crna Strela .50
You want to stand in front of one of these in your bullet proof vest ?
    2)
You show me a bullet proof vest and I will show you a five inch group shot at anything upto 1000 metres, and that was on an average day.
Lets see , average human head is about ten inches of mass...
    ever hear of a headshot.
Bullet proof vest for you madam ?
And just incase you think of popping a 'bulletproof baseball cap' on your noggin , the velocity/impact would snap your neck , and powder your skull , as it turned your brain gel , even if you were wearing a full kevlar pot.

    God's gifts are wondrous...

Sugar pills only work on hypochondria...
    prayer isn't a placebo,
    Prayer works...full stop.

I see. So you're saying that we humans have the ability to make diseases go away by praying, but only if we believe.

    I think that's what I just said.

Tell me, Alabama, if the mind is the most powerful force on Earth, why can't it stop a bullet?

Paragraph breaks are your friend, Bama. I've added them to help others read your Wailing Wall of Text. I've added my own commentary in red:

Anne finally read the Bible, and understands that God is not all hippie love and singing "Kumbaya" 'round the campfire. He's also throwing sinners INTO the campfire. I, for one, am glad to see that she is realizing who God is, instead of who Father Feelgood wants her to believe He is . . . some sort of celestial Santa Claus!

You use the same hateful nastiness in your every day lives and call it religion. Very rare that a war is fought in this world that isn't in the name of religion. "My god is better than your god" thing.

Most wars are fought over resources, Alabama Girl. Nationalism and false religions like Catholicism are used by leaders to encourage the commoners to give up their lives, but resources are the real reason for the wars. Moses vs. the Midianites, Numbers 31, is one notable exception.

People that want to be at peace with themselves will make their own judgments and evaluate their own lives. They will take what they WANT from the bible, good bad or otherwise, and use it for their purposes, to make them feel justified in believing how and whatever they believe.

And then they will go to Hell for ignoring the vast bulk of God's Word. Won't you join me in happiness that Anne is no longer ignoring what God has to say?

Then there are those of us that realize that you can't just cut up the bible and take the bits and pieces you like and discard the rest. Since that is true then those like me choose to believe that the entire thing is garbage.

You're halfway there, Alabama Girl. You're right that you can't take the bits you like and discard the rest! But rejecting all of it is just as bad, in God's eyes.

Atheism is a way of life. Just like these idiots live their lives, every day, with god and scripture and heaven on their minds, I live every day with the knowledge that life, when it is over, is just over. I live with the knowledge that only *I* am responsible for my actions. I live with knowing that only *I* am accountable for every single thing I say/do/think. Which is the heavier burden? Living with my knowledge I think.

Alabama Girl, we have something in common. True Christians(tm) also believe that each person is responsible for his own actions, and is accountable for each and every one of those actions. The difference is, we believe that we are accountable TO someone; that is, God. You atheists are only accountable to yourselves, and whatever distorted, perverse "morality" you can make up for yourselves (if any).

In part that may be why so many turn to religion to begin with. The burden is too great. If they have an imaginary friend to tell their troubles to (after all, tell god your problems and he will make them magically disappear) then it makes the load lighter, yes?
If you look at studies of prayer in medicine, you will see that it does actually result in improved outcomes when the patient is a True Christian(tm) and involved in the praying process.

Likewise, prayer by those who do not know the patient and who aren't True Christians(tm) has no effect upon outcomes. This proves that God listens to True Christians(tm), and not to strangers praying for the sake of a study.

As far as I'm concerned, social workers only further the liberal agenda to take kids away from their parents and give them to homosexual couples.

Well, now that's not entirely true, Anne. God doesn't kill people for not worshipping Him.

God kills them for not worshipping Him, or for not worshipping Him correctly, or for breaking any one of His 600+ commandments without repenting, and then, as an added bonus, casts their souls into everlasting torment in the fiery Hell He created for that sole purpose.

I'm interested to hear the answer to this query (well, series of queries) as well.

You socialist workers are of Satan, and help to make the world a more terrible place.

That's not quite the only difference, my dear. Try creating the world in seven days.
I don't want to kill anyone; I don't even want to kill the monsters that would beat their wife or children or the crack head who robs people so he can get his next fix; I just want to stop them from hurting anyone else.
I'm confused. How is disciplining one's wife or children hurting anyone?

    GLORY!

A lot of women could learn from your views...

It often seems that many modern women fail to realise just how a good, obedient, submissive woman who knows her place and her role, can free up so much of man's time so he can get on with God's work.

You are a credit to true womanhood, and a shining example of what should be meant when the term help meet is applied.
    bless you.

    You're a social worker , and you know...etc...

try being a socail worker in sierra leone how it was a few years ago, when I was there as a 'peacekeeper' , the damn place crawling with warlords , gungangs and 11 year old kiddysoldiers and whores...
If you had tried to help those people they would have done obscene things to your eye sockets , then sold you on...
If they had been in a good mood...

A social worker in The USA or Europe hasn't a clue, they just like to think they have seen the worst...

Sister BTB, you are so lucky to have a man like Pastor Ezekiel in your life! I can only hope for the day to come when I can find my own good Christian man to keep me in line.
