I have just accepted I'll never understand the twisted secular mindset, but that doesn't mean I am not bothered by it.
In my morning devotions I was in Ephesians and read JESUS' beautiful words regarding slaves:
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; -Ephesians 6:5
The Holy Spirit impressed me to cross reference servants and masters.
Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. -1 Timothy 6:1
JESUS was clear that slaves should be content under the rule of their masters, and that their masters were to be regarded as GODly and honorable.
While this may seem contrary to what crackpots like Abraham Lincoln would have you believe, the master/slave relationship is a noble one, and a mirror of our own relationship to our benevolent owner and shepherd, JESUS CHRIST.
If slaves couldn't learn to love and obey their masters on Earth, how would they ever learn to love and obey their Master in Heaven?
One reason slavery is looked upon with disdain in our society is its association with violence. People, especially in the United States, conjure up images of illiterate black people being whipped and beaten for their laziness by white slave owners in the deep south.
But whose fault is that? If I break into a jewelry store and am caught and punished is it the police's fault? Is it the court's fault? No, it's my fault.
Obedient slaves have nothing to fear from their masters.
And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. -Luke 12:47
As for slaves who accidentally break the rules, they too are to be punished:
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. -Luke 12:48
Even still, JESUS is merciful and orders that the slave be beaten with few stripes! Praise Him!
When much is given to us, such as a slave shack to live in, slave food to eat, and the freedom to marry slaves and make slave babies, much is also required in return, and we must not be selfish on ungrateful!
To reject slavery is to reject GOD's plan for us!
And to reject slavery is really to reject all the goodness that GOD has bestowed on us, His well-treated slaves!
