Satan is determined to destroy credibility wherever he can, whether deserved or not. God recorded more details, because He loves us, tracing the progression from mocking to insulting, so that we would know.

In Matthew 11 we learn that wisdom is identified by what happens next, so to speak. God is teaching us more than that in this passage, for example that mockery can be expected when following Christ.
