  • Pride goeth . . .

This is my sin I do confess. Please may the fellowship of LBC send forth prayers on my behalf. Especially may the Brothers both pray and rebuke me and counsel me so that I may be made humble in His sight.

Okay, that was a sincere request, but it sounded dangerously papist to me.

It's embarassing to admit, but I do feel a certain pridefulness in my manner. I've always had an unfortunate tendency towards being snarky, but it really is getting out of hand.

I used to have parents who made me feel unworthy on a regular basis, which kept me in line somewhat. But they are gone now, and I spend too much time by myself and I'm starting to enjoy my own company and am full of self-satisfaction.

What with all the half-learned posters here insisting that God loves everybody and wants nothing more than to see us all happy and content, it is easy to lose sight of the truth.

God's has rightly set a shining standard upon us in the person of Christ Jesus. Jesus was not prideful. He never went around showing off his carpentry projects in an attempt to fish for compliments. Can you image Him being needy and saying things like, "Just look at the wood grain on this bench; I had to work really hard to cut and plane the piece just right to bring that out. Huh? You like?"

Jesus also never went on and on about the quality of the wine he transformed at the wedding in Cana, even though others stated that it was of superior quality. Can you imagine Jesus sitting there with a self-satisfied smirk on His face? No, of course not.

Jesus never allowed His focus to stray from the prize ahead. He also knew that there would be great suffering before that prize could be obtained. He could have kvetched day and night about it, but He mostly tried to prepare people for the remarkable days ahead.

So, here I am, full of myself because I know where to use a semi-colon. Did the sermon on the Mount include the words, " . . . and blessed are those that glorify the use of obscure punctution points"? Duh!

Pride really is one of the worst sins. Lust and greed propel one outwards and one's sinful behavior can be seen and corrected. But pride burns in the heart and puffs one up. Especially when there is no one around to say, "Knock it off with the computer already and change the toilet paper roll."

Therefore I ask that you pray for me. Or perhaps not. All the attention may turn my head.

    Dubiously Yours,

    Handmaiden

Sarcasm is a blight the English started that has only started to infect America without the obvious eye roll or the loud, "Not!" at the end.

I'm afraid the cancer has become terminal on the 350 million smartest people in the world.
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

        Oh Really??
        Nahum 1:2

God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
