This game is meant to be an entertaining experience for players, allowing them to do things that they could not do in the real world. I have this game, and I feel that there is a need to fix many of the misconceptions and slander that I have read over the past pages. First, there is the Doom problem. No school shootings were caused by Doom, and the Columbine+Doom scenario has been proved to be an urban legend. As for Elder Scrolls, how could someone accurately emulate that game into any violent situation? The last time I checked, magic does exist, and people don't fight with swords or bows anymore. Big Jim and company, you are very wrong on many points, so many that I can't actually respond to them all. Instead, I will describe you as best I can due to the points you made. First, you are a bigot; you consider homosexuals beneath you. Next, Satan does not exist; he is merely a figment of your imagination that you use to blame things on rather than either realizing that a person made it to sell copies, or to convince yourself that any wrong-doing on you part was not your fault, a huge example of an inability to take responsibility. All in all, you misinterpret the basic teachings of your own faith in order to appear righteous before others. Hello. I ran across this thread and thought I'd make a few comments...
First off as you're probably wondering I am a born agen spirit filled Christian. I follow preachers like Kennith Copeland, John Hagee, Andrew Wommack, Joel Osteen, Billye Brim, among others that teach a personal relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit not man made "religion"...

On the topic of this thread... I own, and play oblivion. I've also made mods for it which I'll get into later. Oblivion is a "sand box" game. Meaning a player can start the game and go in any which direction they choose. They don't start at point A, and go to Z in a linear fashion. As like in a sand box you can build, and shape it in any way you want. This also goes with the character you choose to play. You can create an "evil" character and practice witchcraft like activity if someone chooses to. On the other hand a player can make a good character and do nothing but destroy evil. There's even an extremely popular mod out there that turns you're look into an angel (in all white armor with wings) and you have EXTREMY powerful abilities. I'm not sure if it references any thing to Jesus, or God the Father I've never tried it, but the base idea is there. The idea of good overcoming evil. So it goes both ways.

Talking about what the original poster said. Does Oblivion "promote" witchcraft, and evil? No not directly. Id say 90% of the game's content promotes good, and good actions. One of the main things that I didn't like, and what the original poster brought up is the fact you pray to some fake gods for healing, and not Jesus...

Oblivion / Hell: As Jesus went to hell made a spectacle of Satan, and took the keys of death, hell and the grave. You (the player) go into hell / Oblivion and take keys that hold open gates to Oblivion. The player doesn't enter Oblivion to fellowship with demons, or pray to them. They hate you, and you kill them. You show Satan, and his demons NO mercy in you're prayer life as you do on you're computer screen. You're sole mission after entering into an oblivion gate is to smash the teeth of evil and close the gate.


Acts of kindness, love, and choices: The game is packed solid with choice making. As I said before it's a sandbox game. There are points in the game where you can give a beggar some money, or give shelter to a homeless person once you own a home. You also see a lot of helping of others in need. And problem solving.


On a personal note: I'm in no way trying to compare what Jesus did on the cross, and in hell for us, or trying to compare this video game to the grace of God. The point I'm trying to make is that Oblivion doesn't directly try and promote evil things. Although as the original poster was talking about praying to fake gods, and the use of witchcraft I didn't like at all. And honestly you can play the game in its entirety, and never pray at all. But for the most part its all in how the player ends up playing the game.


Its the same with mods. There are mods out there that are pure evil no doubt, and other the other hand ones out there that promote good. Like the ones I've made. All of the mods I've made have had some kind of reference to Jesus, or God the father. For example one of the peaces of armor were named “Hood Of Calvary”, and a lot of the armor has crosses on it. I'm hoping it plants a seed. I'm hoping some one might see this and maybe Google the word Calvary wondering what it is, or means. Stuff like that...


I mainly play this game for the adventure, and the mid-ages feel it offers. As far as the witchcraft stuff goes... It bounces off me like water on rock. As a matter of face most of the time their my target.

Actually, This game seems good to me. The Nine Divines (as the Nine gods are called in the game) seem to be angels doing God's work. And the point of the game is to save the world from the Evil Daedra. Also don't forget this game is Rated M for Mature. which is 17+ so if your kid is playing this game, maybe you should look at the Ratings.

Also at no point does it say you worship ANY of these Gods, or False gods.

Actually, you don't need magic to win. Technically, you can't "win" It's almost a sandbox game, which is why it's so awesome. Daedric and silver weapons can harm spirits, and you can learn alchemy, which lets you pick up common plants, and make just about any potion on the fly.

First off, I would like to say that I am delighted to have finally found such a wonderful community of my brothers in Christ.

I must say, though, that I am disturbed that you appear to have studied such an obviously Satanic game so thoroughly. Even with the best of intentions, it is dangerous to asscioate yourself so closely with the tools of Satan. I am concerned for myself to have even had the cursory glimpse of this demonic game by reading of the posts in this thread.

It is all well and good to try to save the souls of others, but is it so important that we must risk our own souls? Besides, you clearly researched this game far more deeply than necessary. Could you not have simply glanced at the back of the evil box in which it comes to learn as much?

But the point is that these things are options. Whether you worship this blasphemous "Divines" or the devilish "Daedra", or even neither of them, you still associate yourself with the plots of Lucifer and his mortal servants, and such things corrupt the soul. And the magic is there, whether you use it or not. From what you say, you must still be around it, no matter what you do in this "game", and you still risk your very soul. and more disturbing than that, if such a thing is possible, is that it seems that you are saying that you use the weapons of these "Daedra". You cannot possibly tell me that touching something that was once in the hands of a demon poses no risk to your Eternal soul.

And you ask us to play this blasphemous, dangerous game, and risk our very souls? To risk eternal torment in the domain of Satan, to "know" what we "bash"?
