  • Greetings, fellow inhabitants of the LORD's square Earth

    Greetings, True Christians!

I am Roger M. Wilcox, founder and president of the International Square Earth Society. We Square Earthers pride ourselves on our literal interpretation of Scripture, focusing on the Revealed Shaped of the Earth in Revelation 7:1 :

"After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree."

My heart went out to the gentle flock of Landover Baptist's congregation when I became aware of your existence. Apparently, a few misguided souls among you have been brainwashed by those lesser Biblical literalists who insist the Earth is flat but circular. This incorrect model comes from the Book of Enoch, a Hebrew writing that was not chosen for inclusion in the Old Testament, but which many of the (ahem) Jewish persuasion consider to be a historically-significant holy book of sorts. I see it as my God-given duty to gently guide such lost sheep back into the fold by pointing out the error of their ways.

    Praise Jesus! EARTH SQUARE!

While I find your theories interesting you seem to be forgetting what it says in Isaiah 40:22:
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
From this you can see that we do not base our theories on 1Enoch or any other apocryphal writings whatsoever since the Book of Isaiah is regarded as an authentic and canonical part of the Holy Bible KJV1611.

Ah! But are tents not square? And can you not encircle something (say, the Midianite army) that isn't circular in shape?

I think it's more like a dome than a tent. Here's a nice article I found regarding this subject:

Brother Alex, it saddens the cockles of my heart to note that none (none!) of the Bible verses quoted in your article mention the Firmament as being "dome" shaped, much less that the edges of the flat Earth are curved.

The only verse that comes close to implying a round-edged Earth is Isaiah 40:22 (which for some reason that article did not quote), and even then, the phrase "circle of the Earth" used in Isaiah 40:22 may mean "encircling" (i.e. surrounding) the Earth, if we are to interpret both Isaiah 40:22 and Revelation 7:1 literally.

An alternate possibility is that the Earth has a circular border, and that the Four Corners of the Earth in Rev 7:1 stick out past the boundary where the firmament meets the ground, like so:

... but that would just look silly.

You need not debate this issue "Dr. Isaiah Jones", as it has already been solidified as infallible truth in our Creation Science section:

What Dr. Jones was only pointing out is that we do not base our opinions on apocryphal scripture as the opening poster stated.

Tracer, you might be correct in your observations but one can never be sure. It could be that the Earth is square-shaped but then again, as Isaiah 40:22 clearly states, the Earth might as well be disk-shaped.

My cosmological studies have shown, however, that "the four corners" of the Earth are most likely referring to certain geographical points within the circle, forming a square if lines are drawn between them.

It might also be that the Earth itself is square-shaped while the dome-tent is circular-shaped. Only God knows for sure.

Quite true you can interpret circle to mean triangle if you wish, but since the 1611 King James Bible was translated properly, True Christians(tm) know there is no need to interpret those God-breathed words.

I suppose you mean square tents like these:

The very word in Hebrew for firmament רקיע (rakia) means expanse from vaulted or pounded helmet literally. Brother Alex is quite right and you are quite wrong. Naturally the audience, for which the interpreters of the 1611 King James Bible wrote, would have understood that. Naturally with your limited exposure to those times and Scripture itself you lose some perspective.

Re: Greetings, fellow inhabitants of the LORD's square Earth

While the Earth has always seemed flat to me, I never imagined that it would be a square. The sun and the moon appear to be round, so it would make sense that the Earth is round, too. If the Earth was square I imagine that the corners would start to erode and then it would eventually become a circle. Maybe it started out as a square?
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Is this for real? People honestly believe this? Why hasn't anyone traveled to the "edges" and photographed/documented it?
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. [Matthew 7:12]

Are you for real? Of course it has been documented in Bible, silly.

Well at least you take the mythical to it absurd but consistent end. You would have loved the men that persecuted Galileo Galile and you have been in an good cosmological position to fit in with high middle age christians.

                            Consistency is important.

Landover Baptist is the only consistent Christian church on earth, that's how you know it's the real deal!
