  • Hello

    Hello everybody,

My name is Daan, i'm from The Netherlands, and in true general interrest I joined this forum. I wish to learn more about you and your way of life and hope we can get along. I think it's good to say here that I do not follow a particular belief, that I am twenty-one years of age and feverishly study medicine so that maybe, one day, I can call myself a doctor. As this is an introduction, if you have any questions for me, i'd happily answer them!

    Ps.
I'd like to note that I am not here troll and that I do not like to be trolled. If I find a post unthoughtful/hateful I will not waste my time on it, as everybody should do with trolls.
Pps. Sorry for any mistakes in typing, English is not my native language.

    Welkom Daan. Hoe gaat het?
Don't worry about grammar or spelling too much, just as long as it's understandable, we're not snobs about that kind of thing here. We have members of many nationalities whose American is imperfect.

So tell us more about yourself.
There are some lovely towns (Bruges and Delft in particular) in your country, and I'm fond of the place myself.

How has Jesus brought you here?
    Married?
    Kids?
    Ambitions?

    YIC, McU

Oh, I loved Bruges when I was there. Anybody who lives there is truly lucky, it is one of the most picturesque locations on this planet. I certainly would be proud to have a town like that in my country. Do you live there/near there Dan?

          Hello McU,

I was born and raised in 's-Hertogenbosch, not far from Delft, a place i too have visited a couple of times. 's-Hertogenbosch is quite like Delft, maybe you'll like it too? I am not married nor do I have children, (im 21) I do have a lovely girlfriend though.
I can't remember via which site but I got here following a link about why Belgium is evil, It was an interesting read
And Shela, house boats are quite uncommon outside Amsterdam, the capitol of The Netherlands. Although I have been in one once.

            's-Hertogenbosch!

The Duke's Forest I believe (sorry, the linguist in me just avoid analyzing things!)

Pretty place, for such a horrible sounding name in the vernacular, better in French Le Bios du Duc, sounds a little bit more daffy but there you go. I prefer it.

I went to your town once. Nice place.

So when are you getting married then?
            I'd hurry you know.

              Hi Two dollar bill
Bruges, or Brugge in Dutch, actually lies in Belgium, a country which was once part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. I have never been there personaly but I indeed heard from many that it is a lovely place. If ever I have the time to visit the coastline i'll definitely trow Bruges in. Maybe in summer recess?

Your translation is correct! In common Dutch it's abbreviated to Den Bosch, which is even more awful I think.

I think marriage in general is something people here do later on in their lives than in America, not sure. I am planning on engaging her (I think that is the correct therm) I'd love to get into a more stable relationship, just want it to be with the right one!

Also, your interest in language, may I ask where it comes from? Did you study linguistics?

Yes, mainly Romance languages although Germanic has been one of our areas of study. I can read Dutch reasonably well, although my spoken Dutch is rather limited. We managed to dispel the myth that the Frisian dialects are anything other than country dialects of Low German as is Dutch.

Our report sent to the Dutch education ministry asking that conventional German spellings should be used in schools was rejected unfortunately.

One of my colleagues is from Leeuwarden and is currently finishing his book on the 'Frysk' myths.

So, yes, I like languages. It's good to be able to communicate and spread the word.

I don't really understand, are you saying that frisian dialects have influences other than old german? I thought this was common fact?

And german spelling? I hope you are not implying that the Dutch language should use the german cases system, they are a pain in the ass (excuse my language) to learn! Failed german classes once because of them.

Although I am not very good in languages in general, I like the way they are interconnected. Did you ever hear Danish? Its speek closely resembles Dutch and sometimes it is even possible for me to understand it without me having any education in the matter. Fascinating

Shudder. It's like listening to people with a mouth full of marbles attempt to pronounce normal words backwards. It makes the rest of the Nordic languages seem almost comprehensible.

Hello, Daan. Welcome to the forum. I noticed that you're old enough to be independant but you're not married, and you have a girlfriend... Who makes your dinner and cleans your house? You're not shacking up with her, are you Daan?

                            Hello New Creation,
I think it's appropriate to say that I am a student living in a different city than my parents. I rent a room here and thus have to make my own food and clean for myself. Although oftentimes I eat with my girlfriend.
If by slacking up you mean intercourse than no. Now, I am aware that there might be some prejudice concerning students and their way of life. And many among my fellow students do not share this thought with me, but I plan on keeping the first time till I am settled with a woman I love.

So how are you? Are you happily maried?

                              Welcome Dan!

That is to enable us to purse in a court of law, heathens and fluffy bunny Christians in a court of law. You'd be surprised how many people in the world claim to be Christians and they do not even follow the Bible! Incredible but true.

So Dan, have you considered having Jesus Christ as your personal savior?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
