    Hello, I'm Greg,
I'm glad to have found this forum to meet like-minded people in a world that can be quite scary at times.

I study the bible independently but sometimes attend the local church whatever it happens to be (currently the Lutheran Church). I've been a follower of Christ all my life, I was blessed to be given good parents who raised me up right.

"…Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
    —John 8:12

I love this scripture because truly Jesus has been a light in my life and I know he can be a light to anyone who seeks him.

    Pleasure to meet you all
2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

Welcome to God's favorite forum, Gregg. How old are you? How many sons has your wife given you?

I'm wondering how it is that you've been a Christian "all your life." Only the Mary worshiping papists adhere to infant Baptism and such.

Of course, the Lutherans are not much more than jumped-up papists. I'm surprised you spend any time with them. Do they have a lesbian pastor covered in tattoos?

I never said I claimed a denomination, I like to spend my time with all of Christ's followers.
I'm sorry that you have such an un-Christlike attitude toward the posters here.
I've shared a good deal of time with baptists and thankfully they were nothing like you. All you have done is berate me and abuse your power while I've posted here. I hope the other posters aren't like you.

Then you must have a very limited social circle, as most who call themselves "Christian" ignore all or part of the Bible. You know, whatever's inconvenient. They call it 'outdated' or 'metaphorical'. But if they like a part, then that's exactly what it means.

You don't do that, do you, Greg?

Friend, there is no more insidious form of Catholicism than Catholicism which doesn't even admit itself to be such. I worshiped at a Lutheran church myself for many years, blissfully believing that I wasn't a Papist, because, hey, it's a Protestant denomination, right?

But what are you protesting against? Catholicism, of course. Which means your religion is nothing more than an heretical sub-sect of the Catholic church.

You say you've fellowshipped with Baptists in the past? Well I suggest you find yourself some more Baptists to hang out with, and do it sooner rather than later!

            Hi Greg,

If you think the LORD has led you to the lutherans, you're reading your Bible wrong.

It's a good thing you found us. My suggestion would be to repent of your wicked ways and ask God to forgive you.

            Pleasure to meet you, too.

              Praise and Glory!

God must have brought you to us so we could put Jesus' words in context. Let's look at what comes right after your chosen verse.
13The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. 14Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. 15Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. 16And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. 17It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. 18I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

Here we see Jesus putting those filthy Jewish naysayers in their place. They had the temerity to question Jesus' bona-fides and He quite rightly told them that He needed none because He could witness for himself, being the Son of God. This totally screwed those hideous doubters and Jesus once again won with simple Godly logic.

              Praise Jesus!

John 5:46,47 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

What sin have I committed? Didn't Jesus Himself dwell with prostitutes? I'm not Lutheran or any sect, I'm independently Christian.

Where? Chapter and verse. Which prostitute did Jesus live with?

You see there are a lot of urban myths about Jesus that have nothing to do with the Bible. One of them is that he lived with [a] prostitute[s] and something tells me you have swallowed it whole.

                          You've never read this story?
36And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. 37And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. 39Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

There are many ways to sin. Allowing someone to wash your feet once is hardly associating with so much so that you imply that He lived with her. You're exaggerating things to make a point and being called out on it. I notice you shy away from actually quoting verbatim.

You are among people who you can't bamboozle with your scripture twisting. This is possibly a novel experience for you. You're going to have to rely on the Bible, not what some tradition tells you or what the person who raised you told you.

Your question was: "Didn't Jesus Himself dwell with prostitutes?" The answer is, "He didn't think to mention it if He did."
