It wasn't a joke, God was testing Abraham's faith. He wanted to see if Abraham loved Him more than he loved his son. I suggest you read the rest of the Bible as well.

well then why would you want him to almost kill his son? theres other ways. choosing between your own flesh and blood, and some voice that could be evil for all you know isn't one of them.
plus theres animal sacrifices in it, doesnt that seem a little bit pagan to anyone?

Why do you feel the need to question God? It's boring.
Referring to the animal sacrifices, Hebrews 9:22- "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission." tells us that a bloodshed has to be made for our sins to be forgiven. The animal sacrifices of the Old Testament were a foreshadowing to the sacrifice of Jesus. It's not pagan, it's Biblical.

Have you ever seen a child being born? Talk about gross! But does that mean we shouldn't reproduce? Heck no! My wife is pregnant as we speak, but there is no way in Hell I'm going to be in the room when she pops out my son, no freaking way!

God gave us all the beasts of the field (except for a few, like pigs and rabbits) and all of the flocks of the air (except ospreys, bats, ossifrages, etc) and all the fish of the sea (except the creepy, bug-like fish like crabs and lobsters) to do with what we will. If God didn't want us to eat cows, why did he make them out of steak?

It's illegal to use steroids in poultry raised for human consumption (in the US). In larger animals, use of steroids is strictly regulated.

Estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone are naturally-occurring (endogenous) steroid hormones produced in significant quantities throughout the lifetime of every man, woman, and child, and are required for the proper physiological functioning and maturation of every mammal. All endogenous steroid hormone products marketed in the U.S. for beef growth-promotion are formulated as implantable pellets and are designed to deliver the hormones at a slow, constant rate when injected subcutaneously under the skin of the animal's ear. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated that, when these drugs are used in accordance with their approved conditions of use, concentrations of the hormones in edible tissues remain within the normal physiological range that has been established for untreated animals of the same age and sex. Because of the slow release of very small amounts of the hormone and a short average half-life (approximately 10 minutes), it has been determined that no preslaughter withdrawal time is necessary to protect the public health. Consumers are not at risk from eating food from animals treated with these compounds because the amount of added hormone is negligible compared to the amount normally found in the edible tissues of untreated animals and that are naturally produced by the consumer's own body.

                    Synthetic Hormones
Unlike naturally-occurring steroid hormones, there is no natural production of the synthetic compounds, trenbolone acetate, zeranol, and melengestrol acetate (MGA). These compounds are not metabolized as quickly as the naturally-occurring steroid hormones. Therefore, the FDA required, prior to their approval, extensive toxicological testing in animals to determine safe levels in edible tissues for these compounds. Furthermore, FDA required that the manufacturers demonstrate that the amount of hormone left in each edible tissue after treatment is below the appropriate safe level.

Information about approved hormone products can be found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 21, Parts 522, 556, and 558. Copies of the CFR may be found at your local public or university library and are for sale from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402. In addition, the Code of Federal Regulations may be found on the Internet.

As the Captain mentioned, birth is gross. So is almost every biological process, including the one that started your existence (not birth - the one before that). Have you ever really taken a good look at genitalia, or a non-extremely attractive couple going at it? Don't ask your boy/girlfriend if your box is ugly (they will lie to you and say "oh nooooo..."). If we didn't have such a drive to copulate (and it didn't feel so freaking amazing), we would have died out long ago.

The only thing uglier than life is death, which is itself part of life. "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust...". The only reason you can even feel the way you do is your fortune for being born where you were, and when you were. Anywhere or anytime else, you'd not have the luxury of the choice. Odds are you would be raised on a farm, where death is an everyday occurrence. The food you ate didn't come on a polystyrene tray, wrapped in cellophane, from the grocery store. It came from the barn, where it had been strung up by the ankles and had it's throat sliced, the guts allowed to spill out on the ground to be eaten by the pig or dog that would be next week's dinner.

You're just afraid of life, death, and the whole stinking "gross" mess that goes along with both of them. You've allowed others to convince you that somehow death is evil, and that by disassociating yourself from it, you make yourself a "better person".

You might not even wear leather, even though it's a byproduct. You prefer plastic shoes, which are made from oil, even though innocent animals were forced off their habitat (and died) to make way for the drills, rigs, pumping station, pipeline, refinery, processing plant, etc.

Face it, the only way for you to completely remove yourself from the killing of "innocent" animals is to kill yourself. Gonna do that?

Not with steroids, dear. That's illegal, as I just stated. I even gave you an FDA statement on the matter.

Some processors do inject them with water to make them larger (AFTER butchering, not while alive), but generally speaking, their size is the result of selective breeding. Some types of chickens are bred to do nothing but eat. The Cornish cross (or Cornish-Rock) is the most popular of these.

Broilers are chickens raised specifically for meat production. Modern commercial broilers, for example, Cornish crosses or Cornish-Rocks, are specially bred for large scale, efficient meat production and grow much faster than egg laying hens or traditional dual purpose breeds. They are noted for having very fast growth rates, a high feed conversion ratio, and low levels of activity. Broilers often reach a harvest weight of 4-5 pounds dressed in only five weeks,[1] although more slow growing free-range and organic strains reach slaughter weight at 12-16 weeks of age. Typical broilers have white feathers and yellowish skin. This cross is also favorable for meat production because it lacks the typical "hair" which many breeds have that necessitates singeing after plucking.
and humans dont need meat. we can survive without it. i am.
Humans in the middle ages, and even up until the early 19th century, were far smaller in stature than modern Western humans. Know why? Poor nutrition.

What happened in the mid 19th century? Consumption of meat became affordable, thanks to that evil capitalism you no doubt hate. Most people began consuming animal protein, which is the most easily digested protein for the human body.

Want your kids to be stunted? Go back to a grain-based diet. Enjoy.

And by the way, all that soy contains phytoestrogen, which is a plant hormone indistinguishable to the human body from the female sex hormone estrogen. It causes girls to get their period earlier, and feminizes boys.

But I guess that's all fine with you. And of course soy allergy (increasingly common), and soy intolerance (think searing gas pains and horrid flatulence and diarrhea, also increasingly common).

think of it, you're just a cow doing what cows do, then next thing you know you're put on a truck and shipped off where your throat is slit for no reason. how you like that if i did that to you?
Think of it, you're a soybean, doing what soybeans do, trying to reproduce, then next thing you know you're being whacked with a "combine", and then pulverized and made into tofu. How would you like it if I did that to you?

Let's not forget that oil comes from the remains of dead animals and plants, dinosaurs and such that were buried in the sediments during the Flood.

So you're OK with enslaving cows and artificially forcing them to continue producing milk even though they're not bearing calves, and you're OK with them being bred to produce so much milk that is so rich that it'd actually kill their calves from diarrhea, but it's cruel to eat them.

Keeping them in bondage to serve your dietary needs is fine, though.
