I denounce anything not backed by evidence. As the Bible is counted as "evidence" on this forum, I only denounce non-Biblical Christians as the hypocrites they are. True Christians™, on the other hand, walk the walk as well as they talk the talk, so I admire their honesty, if not (what I view as) their delusions.

...I think I'll welcome you now and say that it's nice to meet you, before I get caught up in the conflagration between you and the pastors...
And I you, though you will have to lose any pagan leanings before your thoughts get any respect from me.

As far as the pastors here go, they've allowed me to stay for near two years and 3,000 posts. I can live with a few unflattering "awards" (I've been called worse by better ).

...Also weren't there true surviving accounts of Jesus of Nazareth's existence from ancient Roman army accounts?...
Nope. If such existed, the Vatican would be shouting it from the rooftops, instead of letting doubts linger.

The area was under heavy Roman occupation at the time. A gathering of 5,000+ (which Jesus allegedly fed with a few loaves and a couple of fish) would have been noticed and recorded, don't you think?

...Thanks for sharing, my world history is rusty.
Wikipedia's awesome to start off (just be sure to double-check anything contentious or otherwise "iffy", their edit policy is getting rather "clique-y" recently).

But am I incorrect in this, but isn't Tacitus a real book by Voltaire?
      .[/QUOTE]

Sorry, I meant to ask, wasn't Tacitus a FICTIONAL book by Voltaire? A satire?

We don't deal in satire here, son: we deal in FACTS.

Google comes up empty for Voltaire-Tacitus links, aside from a short passage comparing the two as historians in "Amusements in retirement; or, The influence of science, literature, and the liberal arts, on the manners and happiness of private life, by the author of The philosophy of nature" by Charles Bucke (p. 63, pub. 1816), available as a Google ebook.

I'm sorry you got banned, Miss. I was so looking forward to hearing how your religion teacher explains parasitic wasps.

You know, the ones that sneak up on an innocent caterpillar, then lay eggs in its back. The caterpillar goes on eating afterward, trying to live down the shame of this painful and likely confusing violation, until the eggs hatch and the larvae eat the caterpillar alive from the inside.

How does your religion teacher explain such beauty as that?

            Guess I'll never know.

Second, I discovered this idea long before I read Hume. He wrote it first, so of course it is only fair he get the credit, but I came to the same conclusion he did before I read his work. I made it up, I just was not the first.
You have no basis for making such a sweeping assertion and generalization. Ignoring for the moment that there is both chemical and electrical activity in the human brain, the anthropomorphic metaphor that the human brain is "just like" a computer is pure scientific bullshit – along with the fantasy theories of Alan Turing (and his so-called "Turning Test"). Aside from the problem of imperfect knowledge that would drive your "deterministic" system – much like Freud, you are relying on outmoded 19th Century reductionism to arrive at your unsupported conclusion. For a dose of enlightenment you need to read the works of physicist Sir Roger Penrose, or explore the mathematics behind game theory.

Hate to break it to you but the only account we have that's accepted as reliable by any large group of people for who Jesus was, what He did and what He said is the four gospels.

Luckily for us these four pieces of God-inspired writing agree utterly on how Jesus lived His life and what He had to say, His death and resurrection. So they are totally authentic and beyond question.

But if you believe Jesus was a historical figure, why not embrace Jesus as your saviour? That would follow logically since he's the son of God.
