I think she linked to it further back in the thread. She seemed incapable of independent thought and just linked her every opinion to the writings of others with little intervening thought as to the veracity of the claims made. It'slike all those science kids who blindly believe anything in a book with photos in it of make up stuff like space.

Well good grief! If you can't trust the LORD to preserve His Word throughout His own creation, then you might as well scrap the whole thing and adopt a humanist approach to life. That way you can go ahead and wrestle the ideals of morality against recently uncovered information and evolving ethics. Then when you go to Hell and roast for all eternity, you can at least say you did things your way.

Yes, you will burn in hell.

As already noted, God has promised to preserve His words. So which of the following do you believe?
    1. God has reneged on His promise to preserve His words, in which case He is not omnibenevolent.
    2. God isn't able to preserve His words, in which case He is not omnipotent.
    3. God isn't aware that His words have become corrupted, in which case He is not omniscient.
    4. The Bible was never God's Word to begin with.
    5. There is no God.
If you believe in any of those things, why bother going to church at all, unless it's just a social club to you?

That is not what the Bible says.

    Psalm 12
6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

You shall not add or take away any of His Words; such as you are attempting to do.

    Deuteronomy 4
1 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

The Lord protects His Word, which is why the KJV is the approved Word of God(c). He does not allow Liberal Hippies to put their hands on it.

    Proverbs 30
5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Friend, the demons of lesbianism and oryism have filled you so that your ears itch, and drive you to every wind of doctrine.

    2 Timothy 4
    3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Thank you for replying to my post. I've edited your response down to save space but essentially you're saying that we don't know what the Hebrew word meant. OK, let's take that on board and move forward a bit.

Paul was educated as a Pharisee and could be expected to know Hebrew. He was a Roman citizen and fluent in Greek. Perhaps not quite as stylish as Luke but clear and specific so here are some of the words he used for your comment. You could print out the little word chart and fill in the correct answers which I included for you (just drag graphic to desktop, open & hit print) too easy

Now we know quite well what the Greek words mean because a characteristic of written language is that it trails spoken language by about 600 years [Goulder] and in the case of Hellenistic Greek we can see from the spelling that modern pronunciations were in use then and if not universal, were certainly employed by the New Testament guys on the street.

Modern English has been with us for quite a few centuries but the formal grammar persists (in lawyers' letters for example) whereas grafitti is more current. A policeman explaining why he's arrested you doesn't say the same words as he writes on the charge sheet but if you wrote down what he said it would be quite clear. Clearer than the charge sheet, probably.

We know what the Greek means, then.

Here are some dictionary definitions to go with the translations you'll probably have just about finished by now:

LINK Foul or dirty. Morally defiled; unchaste. Ceremonially impure.
LINK To refuse to accept, submit to, believe, or make use of. To refuse to consider or grant; deny. To refuse to recognize or give affection to (a person). To discard as defective or useless; throw away. To spit out or vomit.
LINK Not righteous; wicked. Not right or fair; unjust.
    LINK Morally corrupt; perverted.
LINK To feel hostility or animosity toward. To detest. To feel dislike or distaste for. To feel hatred. Intense animosity or dislike; hatred. An object of detestation or hatred:
LINK Intense or unrestrained sexual craving. An overwhelming desire or craving. Intense eagerness. Pleasure; relish. To have an intense or obsessive desire, especially one that is sexual.
LINK to treat with disrespect, to cause the disgrace of (a woman) by seduction or rape; a lack of honour or respect; a state of shame or disgrace; a person or thing that causes a loss of honour; an insult; affront.
LINK Evil by nature and in practice. Severe and distressing. Highly offensive; obnoxious.
LINK guilt, embarrassment, unworthiness, disgrace, condemnation, ignominy. A great disappointment. To force by making ashamed. To fill with shame; disgrace.
LINK A wish or longing. The object of longing. Sexual appetite; passion.
LINK In violation of a natural law. Deviating from a .. norm: an unnatural attachment. Contrived, constrained; artificial. In violation of natural feelings; inhuman.
LINK termination of life. Bloodshed; murder. Execution; termination, extinction.

That's what God is saying about the homosexual demoniac and even allowing for your dislike of "abomination" it's still not what you say.

I think the point is for Christians to take their morality from the Bible.

Otherwise they place themselves above their god.

The thing to remember is that bearly one hundred years ago a member of the gay community would be imprisoned in England: now it is different (thankfully) but (and this is important) absolute morality (as defined by the Christian bible) CANNOT CHANGE, by definition.

This is because the revealed truths of the bible are un changing.

It makes no sense to me but if there is one thing I've learnt here is that these people place Christian morality over personal morality.

P.S. Even the most glossed-over translations of the Bible (NIV, NLV, etc.) use words like "detestable" and "sinful" and "hateful" in that verse. But hey, maybe we should take the word of a dolphin-molester over people who have devoted their lives to the Bible.

Ask any of your profs if you can copy a paper from someone else, neglect to mention that you'd stolen it, get caught, fess up and admit you'd stolen it, and still get credit.

The wrong you did to Jay Michaelson (to whom you really should write a contrite letter of apology) was in failing to credit him for his work when you posted it as your own (which you did by not crediting him). Doing so after the fact (and only when you got called on it) DOES NOT absolve you of blame, and shows your complete lack of ethics.

I wonder what your academic supervisors would make of this?
