I understand that reading Solzhenitsyn would be too much to ask from a little kid like you, but try reading Viktor Suvorov. He has a writing style that is easy to read, and I can reassure you, I know for a fact, that even the most absurd stuff he writes about (like throwing overproduced fertilizers directly to the rivers, or painting the grass green for a visit of a high official) has been done at some point or another.
