Thank you for clearing this issue up for me, this was not an attempt to start a debate as your admins have informed me but merely a lack of understanding. i can see now how easily it is to get mixed up in dates since the calendar has changed so much. And Old Cranky Man thank you also for clarifying me on my misjudgements of the "three wise men." This is clearly a mainstream veiw and i am glad i am now more educated in the subject. This is all i seek, further education. Thank-you

Let's us all get down to wherever they are and yell HOMER!!! at them. That should really put them in their place(s) and discourage any such further antics in the future

Several things wrong with this. First, no one BUT this site calls gay people "homers". They would not know what you were talking about. If you were to do that, "homo" would be the correct term.

Second, They aren't gathering in one place. More like several places. Unless you can clone yourself (which I doubt you can do) you cannot make that much of an effect.

Third, THEY WOULDN'T CARE.

Disclaimer: As an athiest myself, I do not agree to any of this. This display is just trying to fight a losing battle with organized religion. Though I am not a fan of organized religion, I think the atheists should just leave it alone.

If the word of the bible is taken literally then Christmas should actually be on the 5th of April 5 A.D if taken from the current calendar. why is the religious festive of Christmas then on the 25th of December which falls on the same day as historically famous pagan festive?

We don't expect you to understand these things. First of all we have the standard calender with designated days in modern times. However this calendar changed throughout history.

Now to get into the explanation, there was the Jewish calendar, which was not a solar calendar but a lunar one. Its Religious New Year started with Nisan which corresponds with our March/April; then Iyyar our April/May; Sivan our May/June; Tammuz our June/July; Ab our July/August; Elul our August/September; Tishri the Civil New Year which corresponds to our September/October; Marchesvan our October/November; Chislev our November/December; Tebeth our December/January; Shebat our January/February; Adar our February/March.

There were 12 months of 30 days, however the actual lunar cycle is only 29 1/2 days so every 7 out of 19 years they added an intermediate month called Adar Sheni meaning second Adar, at the end of the seventh year. Are you confused yet?

Now the New Testament was written in Greek. The calendars there would be represented by whatever they used. The problem arises that every city-state used its own calendar and they would often vary them. In Athens the year started in the summer; Sparta and Macedonia started their year in the fall; Delos in winter. Athens is the best known calendar of the Greeks but there is no way to tell what calendar a New Testament writer might use. Their months alternated between 29 and 30 day months. The months were: Hekatombion, Metageitnion, Boedromion, Pyanepsion, Maimakterion, Poseidon, Gamelion, Anthesterion, Elaphebolion, Munychion, Thargelion, and Skirophorion. Every so often they would have to add an intercalary month called Second Poseidon after Poseidon but not always. When they did it was also on a 19 year cycle. Remember every city-state could use a different calendar with different names.

Eventually the Bible was translated into Latin which was used for over 1000 years. The Latin calendar was very confusing. At first it used the lunar cycles but the one invented supposedly by Romulus the founder of Rome was not lunal. His calendar had an odd sequence of numbered days. It started in 753 BCE. There were three set points of every month, the Nones, the Ides, and the Kalends. The Kalends was always the first of the month on the New Moon. Nones was the day of the half moon. Ides (we have all heard of the Ides of March, the day Julius Caesar was assassinated) was the day of the full moon.

There were only 10 months and the year started on the vernal equinox. The months were were: Martius (31 days), Aprilis (30 days), Maius (31 days), Iunius (30 days), Quintilis aka Quinctilis (31 days), Sextilis (30 days), September (30 days), October (31 days), November (30 days), and December (30 days). There were 304 days in this calendar with 61 days of winter not assigned to any month.

Around 731 BCE Numa Pompilius altered Romulus' calendar by appropriating a couple of days from each month of the Romulus calendar and adding Ianuarius and Februarius to the beginning of the year. He wanted a lunar year rather than a lunar month. Numa thought a 354 would be great but the Romans considered odd numbers to be lucky so he added 51 days to the 304 days. Now if you aren't totally confused yet, I might add that some Roman authors talk about more than one Civil Calendar plus a Religious Calendar each of which is different.

To add to this confusion some calendars added a leap month that split Febrarius. This happened at the order of the pontifex maximus. Because the pontifex maximus was not a steady job the calendar might vary year ot year, longer for some politicians and shortened when the opponents were in office. Julius Caesar overhauled the calendar to make it better fit the solar year. We know that at the Julian Calendar.

It was in use until 1582 when Pope Gregory revised the Julian calendar because it drifted by 11 minutes every day from the actual solar day. All Catholic counties adopted it. In 1752 the British Empire including the American colonies adopted the Gregorian Calendar. Russian did not adopt it until 1918.

Do you see the chaos surrounding any historic date? Unsaved Trash should not concern their pretty little heads about what date Christmas or any other day falls on. That should be left to True Christian™ scholars, Reverends and Pastors who have expertise in these sorts of things.

Judged from star patterns using astronomy, if the three wise men followed a star, this star must be the north star. The path the star followed can then be traced and an accurate time of year is easily predicted. In this case April 5th. Which also means that Easter is wrongly placed also. If Jesus lived for 33 and a half years as stated in the bible, give or take even a few months Easter is badly misplaced. It would not have taken Christ six months to rise from the dead. I do celebrate Christmas and Easter and strongly believe in the values they bring to family all across the world, i am just merely pointing out they are misplaced on our modern calendar.

You couldn't be more completely wrong.

The idea of the Star of Bethlehem being the North Star not only makes no sense, there's no compelling reason why to even assume that in the first place. Let's read some more Scripture.

Matthew 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Matthew 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Matthew 2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

1. If they came from the east of Jerusalem, following the North Star (which always points to North) would have led them North, not west.
2. The North Star is stationary in the sky. The Bible suggests it was in the horizon, leading the way, until they came to Bethlehem where it was high overhead. This star moved.
3. The North Star is not that bright of a star to begin with. How could it stand out against the other stars?
4. It is unlikely that the wise man would mistake the North Star for a magic star.

Point is, even if you would've said it was a UFO, it would have a million times more credibility than that half-cocked theory

So what you are saying, using lots and lots of useless words, is that you are making this up and that it is not in the Bible. E.g. the "three wise men" are not in the Bible, it mentions 3 gifts but not how many people gave them: Matthew 2:11 "And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh."

See how important it is to mention actual scripture when you say something?

Only because todays Christianity is too week, the most of "churches" are too politically correct, to coward, to greed or already dead. The Christian World need more churches like your, which can fight and response to atheists.
