According to this news report, leaders for the Southern Baptist Convention "acknowledged [that] it failed to adequately listen, protect and care for [a sexual abuse] victim when she went public with her claims."
This is, as anyone can imagine, seriously offensive stuff. In accordance with God's Own Word, the proper time for a righteous woman to "go public" with a report of sexual wrongdoing is when it is happening. Deuteronomy 22:23-27 plainly states that a woman needs to scream her head off when confronted by a man trying to have his way with her. If she fails to do so, there is no "crime" of assault-- or the even more nebulous concept, "abuse"-- there is the sin of fornication.
The idea that any church group calling itself "Baptist" could be so steeped in the darkness of Biblical illiteracy is beyond me. This church made a monetary settlement directly to this woman rather than to her father and no marriage between the woman and the so-called "abuser" took place. Furthermore, no one involved was stoned to death.
The only apology that needs to take place in this situation is the one owed to Baby Jesus, whose testimony has been tarnished and whose Holy Nature has been offended several times over. First, He was forced to endure the sight of the physical sin taking place, then His Sacred Scripture has been flouted. The money being diverted from His ministry is the final heartache.
Anyone out there who thinks that the woman at the center of the story is the wronged party simply does not have Jesus at the center of their heart.
That is the key message of the Bible and the Southern Baptist Convention seems to have forgotten that. No good will come from this flagrant departure from God's Word. And it certainly isn't good business practice. It is as if these people haven't been paying attention to Jesus or Donald Trump.
Deuteronomy 22: 23-29
If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:
But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:
For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.
If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
