A 41-year-old man has died and at least six other people have been injured after reports a large sign had fallen at a Christian festival in West Sussex, police said.

Sussex Police said it was called to the Big Church Festival at Wiston Park, near Steyning, at about 15:38 BST on Friday.

At least six people were taken to hospital for treatment, and a 41-year-old man, from Eastbourne, died at the scene. The local congressman said, "My thoughts are with all of those impacted at this time and those responding to the incident."

The Diocese of Chichester said: "We pray for all involved in this accident and those responding."

Leave it to God to make His point in a dramatic way. Once it was to flood the world, now it is to push over a perfectly sound sign. God will not tolerate putting His good name on what looks like a Pagan conference.

Is that a "yurt" in the picture? Used instead of a house where there's more yaks than bricks, supposed to be quite cozy in winter, no doubt a fairly neutral item. But in Sussex—or for that matter in California, Tasmania, Norway and the like—the yurt is a symbol of alternative therapies such as yoga and meditation.
