  • Good News About Plastic in the Ocean

Environmentalists have been having a cow for years about plastic being dumped in the world's oceans. It has been good business for companies who sell plastic to have it not in land fills where the public sees it. Better instead to fill empty ocean containers returning to the Orient with used plastic bags and pay some penniless peon to carry in out into the ocean and dump it.

There is so much of it islands of plastic have formed. Pictures go around the internet and there is much hand wringing. But now there is good news.

Scientists who study these islands now admit animals who once lived on shore are now thriving on these plastic islands. Shrimp and others are reproducing and are happy as could be.

If we are innovative and do not listen to naysayers maybe there will be humans moving onto these islands. Ocean front property sells for a premium and these islands will have lots of it.

Quite right. If these are islands they can be used as islands.

However - where are the photos of these "garbage islands"? I see news stories about them all the time.

"Twice the size of Texas", well I don't see it on Google maps?

I checked out those videos on the news article linked - some diver swimming about in a few pieces of garbage; possibly dumped their by their friends. Not an island.

    Where's the island?

I think the islands have not been named yet. That is why they are not shown on satellite pictures. Once developers get started you will see exotic names.

I don't see what they're bitching about this for, because they're also claiming sea levels are rising. Well, here's your answer. Send all the people dumb enough to live at or below sea level (like the Dutch) to live on the brand new plastic islands. A solution this elegant could only have come from the hand of God.
I was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore,
        Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more;
But the Master of the Sea heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I!

Aren't they worried about squatters getting there first? Free building materials, tropical climate, no nasty government oversight... Better send a lot of heavily armed people to protect these treasures.

You have a point there, Mr. Atheist. Perhaps we here at Landover Baptist should expedite the development of these islands so respectable Christians can have first choice.

I'm suggesting the first be named after an island mentioned in Revelations:

Revelation 1:9, "I, John.... was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus"

Patmos, then is our first island. It is a place where God has spoken.

I am happy to begin development of Pastor Zeke Cove on Patmos Island.

Re: Good News About Plastic in the Ocean

Isn't plastic made from oil? Just imagine if it were still in its liquid form, the bleating would be unbearable! Or just flared off at the oil refinery, smoke, gasses. BLM would look like an afternoon tea party at the retirement village!

Genesis 9: 1-2 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.

Let's put on our environmentalist hats for a moment. That of course includes evolution as plugged incessantly by that guy in the boat. Why is he able to make a boat and not strangle himself? Because he is the product of ‘millions of years of evolution’ during which ancestors who couldn't work out how to make boats drowned. Same applied to strangling oneself. So they didn't pass on whatever makes you unable to distinguish a plastic bag from a jellyfish. Without that process, they say, there wouldn't be any humans. Or mammals of any sort. There probably wouldn't even be reptiles or fish. Nothing would have gotten beyond blobs of protoplasm. Still wearing the hats, foul humanity has no purpose except to go extinct (which would involve all mammals going extinct too) and open up an ecological niche for the REAL earthling species. They don't know what they'll descend from but it must be alive now.

Removing the hat, what they're doing is to freeze everything where it is now (as they see it) denying plastic-immune species the chance to ‘evolve’ at all!

                How selfish is that?
